Hello, I think many of us are still buzzing from the gameplay demonstration last night, I myself found it to be quite thrilling. However, I thought it was odd at the beginning where Big Boss is accompanied with Ocelot that Oceleot was doing all the talking, usually Big Boss would give some sort of retort to the situation but he said nothing... I really hope this isn't a sign of whats to come in the Phantom Pain, I love where this game is going and how Big Boss will be suffering but I don't want him to become completely silent. I recently criticized another franchise for the same trait. In 'Xenoblade Chronicles X' for the Wii-U, It seems this time you create your own character, which leads him to having no importance or involvement in the main story. Even in the 40 minute gameplay demonstration of the game, you see the blank avatar just nod as a response - what's even worse is seeing how the characters around this mute compensate for this by over-talking. I was looking forward to this game after 'Xenoblade Chronicles' on the Wii was my favourite game of the generation, but now I am selling my Wii-U from this poor creative decision. I just don't want to see Big Boss go the same way. I mean of course Big Boss is already an established character. But I fear these talks of him have amnesia after the coma may come into play. If we see BB with amnesia and struggling with it, fine, but if this makes his character none-existant, it could be game destroying. I need a main character I can invest in with a story and from all the trailers we've seen, Big Bosses struggle and twist, I have faith that he will be an engaging character. I was content with the dialogue from Snake in Ground Zeroes, how they talked during the mission briefing. But after seeing that gameplay demonstration and how silent he was... I cannot help but have a little doubt in my mind... curious to what others think on this. |

I think the lack of him saying a retort is because of Kiefer's VA and the new direction with it. One of my biggest peeves about kiefer-snake, doesn't feel at all like Big Boss to me. |

Yes, well it has taken me a long to to get used to the new voice of BB. I think I am there now though, but now that I am ready for it, I want it to be present. I don't want Big Boss to become an Avatar for the player like in many games these days. I want Big Boss to thrive as a well written character. The biggest appeal to me despite all the amazing gameplay features is the character of Big Boss and how they're finally delivering the story which covers how vengeance corrupts Big Boss. I don't want the character to be compromised from being a mute. |

Every intro mission has this. It's for the player, not BB. |

I can totally see a scene somewhere in the second act where Kaz addresses his silence like he's pissed off about it too, constantly talking and getting no response, that leads to a massive argument between the two of them! |

I guess the coma just made him shy. I agree though how about a little interaction. Just because it's a player introduction to a mission doesn't mean he can't say something. Like when ocelot asked about the arm...he really didn't have a comment there? He just looked at it. |

I'm a Kiefer fan boy and I like a quieter Big Boss, but I really did expect him to say something there. That was weird. |

He will probably open up as the game goes on. It appears he goes from 9 year coma, right back to the battlefield...idk what it's like to be in a coma but id imagine he wouldn't be himself. But as the game goes on, it appears he's going to become darker. And having someone not speak makes them much more mysterious and even more dark... Everyone's going to have to adapt that big boss is no longer the same character... For the people who want a snake like that, we will have to wait see if solid snake will be back in this game or a remake. Kojima did say that we will see solid snake again. |

I can barely tell apart Miller's and Kiefer-Boss' voices. Kiefer-Boss doesn't seem to have a strong, distinctive voice, IMO. I am sure Miller and Ocelot will be doing most of the talking in the game. |

I'm okay with a quieter Big Boss. Silent protagonists are generally easier to relate to, anyway.

He speaks plenty in pretty much all the trailers showing footage from TPP. I wouldn't worry about it too much. |

I missed some of the recent gameplay footage, but where can I see Ocelot asking Big Boss about his bionic arm? EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. Thank you Inspector! Edited by Crimson Rex, Jun 20 2014, 06:04:10 PM.
