Big Boss & Amnesia...; I hope this doesn't make Snake into a Silent Protagonist...

It was a rhetorical question. Not sure why everyone is upset at his lack of response. I found him looking at his hand to examine it was more interesting.

I also found it odd that he didn't talk much. Kojima wanted someone who was able to convey emotion through voice as we'll as facial animation. Then there was that interview where he said he wanted to show BBs emotions through OTHER people. LOLok?

What little we've heard from Chief Kief is good though, but I always liked the Snake's dialogue and I'm hoping this is the same.

kojima is incredible! how the fuck have i not seen that?!
Emo people dont talk.

Or the logical reason: Kiefer is expensive as fuck, and BB has his lines reduced, because Kojima in his pursue to fullfil his movie director fantasies got a hollywood star to voice his golden child thanks to the Avid Arad.

What a bunch of lies, because Jack from the first Bioshock or Gordon freeman are relatable characters right?

Opinions: Don't you dare have your own.

On topic, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt since they're still obviously not done with the voice acting, and there's a chance that they had changes in the dialogue (like Robin Atkin Downes new script), but they've yet to have the chance to bring Kiefer to re-record his lines.

I hardly think the reason for the subdued dialogue is because Kiefer is 'expensive as fuck'. If that was the case, Kojima should have made a critical call to whether or not to hire such an expensive celebrity, to in turn lessen the dialogue of the man protagonist?

Hardly think so, the reason he's not talking is because his thought process is full of mush after his coma, progressively as the game continues, Snake will regain his thoughts and himself and start to come back into his role. The trailers indicate there is going to be a lot of dialogue from Kiefer-Snake.

So.. excite yourselves now. DO IT NOW.

I certainly see Kojima making Snake a less chatty character. I hope not at the Gordon Freeman extreme. That's just dull and lazy, in my opinion. I do think that the amount of voicework do influence the money arrangement between Kiefer and Konami/Kojima production. I wouldn't discard it.

I wouldn't be so sure. Trailers are deceptive. In movies, for instance, trailers nowadays tend to have pretty much all the important moments of the plot. But hope you're right.

I would, Kojima has been wanting to go all out on a metal gear title since he first created MG, he has always felt that the previous creations were not the total vision he was seeking and got really upset at most of the titles in their final stages of development because the ultimate end product was so far away from the original concept and idea, he always got depressed and upset.

With MGSV, and the sole creation of Fox Engine, he has 100% total control over how this game will end up. I can't see Hideo scaling a game as big and epic as this, hiring someone like Kiefer Sutherland without realizing 'This is going to cost a lot of money'... so we'll make Snake talk less. I truly believe it's to do with the plot of this story and all that happens to Snake for him to react this way.. (or not react?)

I don't know. Financial issues have been specially dangerous this last two console generations. Big studios have gone bankrupt even though sale-wise, their games have not performed bad. Videogames are very expensive to do. Again, I wouldn't discard it. After all, he made from $250K-$550K per 24 episode.

Or perhaps, it isn't a money related issue. Perhaps they thought that a gigantic script a la any-MGS-ever for the protagonist would have scared Kiefer, regardless of the money thing.

I can totally see a scene somewhere in the second act where Kaz addresses his silence like he's pissed off about it too, constantly talking and getting no response, that leads to a massive argument between the two of them!
That would def. be an interesting scene.

it's silly to think the cost of employing kiefer has any effect on how much he speaks. If anything he would talk more because of how much they are paying him. He's not getting paid per line.

I don't mind Big Boss having a little amnesia, as long as he remembers the important things:

I guess Kojima really wanted to 'waste' his money on Kiefer, since he made him voice BB, Ishmael and maybe the medic. :P

That video was funny though :D

I couldn't agree more. This cut scene is perfect and its completely apt that Big Boss doesn't say a word.

At the point of this scene, Big Boss has just woken up after losing 9 years of his life and most of his people. Like any real person that goes through a severely traumatic experience, Big Boss needs time to accept what's happened and while the wounds are still fresh, he won't be making much conversation. As the storyline moves along, I think Big Boss will begin to talk more.

While I can't identify with Big Boss and what happens to him, I certainly do have personal experience of going through something quite traumatic and I can assure you it was months before I started talking properly and being myself again. Everything for a while was a constant reminder of what happened and anyone questioning the sudden change in Big Boss' personality simply can't appreciate what he's going through.

Still we carry you.

I thought everyone knew that Kiefer was chosen because of his facial acting? He was always going to speak less.
