Mother Base and Unit Upgrades

I'm not any good with computers or doing screen shots, so maybe one of you computer guys can help me out with this. In the game play video, I paused it during the scenes when he was assigning troops to the intel unit and read everything from the recruit list to Combat Unit, R&D Unit and Intel Unit. Also the top main screen has a 9/---, which I'm guessing is the number of recruits you're allowed to have (since he only has 9 guys on screen and a 35/350 which is probably the number allowed total for all assigned positions. When you go into the actual unit assignment screen each one has a --/50 which probably means a total of 50 guys in each one.

The Recruit list has the same signs as the Unit logos with the crossed rifles (combat), wrench (R&D), Hexagons (???) a white box (support), voice lines (intel) and a pill (medical). Under the logos is a ranking system (B1, B2, A1, A3, E8 etc.) Maybe these are ranks of the Recruits from when they start or maybe they move up the longer they serve in a specific unit.

Combat Unit - Combat units that can be hired out to provide additional GMP streams to Mother Base. As the unit level increases, you accrue more GMP. Contracting multiple missions yields even more GMP.

R&D Unit - Develop weapons and equipment. The types of items that can be developed increases with the unit's level.

??? - ???

Support Unit - Provides support during battle in the form of weapons/ammo supply drops and air strikes. As unit level increases, the types of attacks available increases and response time becomes shorter. Fulton success rate during bad weather also increases.

Intel Unit - Investigates and provides intel on mission areas. As unit level increases, intel becomes more detailed and arrives more frequently.

Now when he gets the cardboard box, there appear to be different levels to items, like the box start off as Level 1 for 1000 GMP and the Level 2 box is 70000 GMP and it appears that they split into two different items at level 3. The NVG's are also list starting at level 2 for 30000 GMP. The Phantom Cigar is also listed in there and there's a level 2 for 50000 GMP. Now I'm just guessing but this will most likely be for upgrading weapons like the AM-69 to the AAS model to get the scope and the grenade launcher. Can't wait to find out. Anybody got any more input or maybe make the photos from the video.

Or assigning where to build new structures on Mother Base.

Edit: Looking at it again, I would say it might be building structures but assigning units to build those structures too. Higher level units = faster build time?

When you look at the icon at the Main screen to choose Mother Base Management, it's logo has hexagons as well.

Mother Base menu screenshot:
Spoiler: click to toggle

The "empty" hexagon is a representation of where you would put a structure. The filled out hexagon represents a structure to put in it's place:
Spoiler: click to toggle

So from this I'll say this is how we go about building Mother Base.

If you press the prnt screen button on your keyboard then go to start, run, (or windows key+r) type in mspaint, then press control+v, it will paste the image, then go to file, save as, select it as a jpeg image and then save it to wherever you like.

Waiting Room is the area currently selected, the number 9 shows how many are in the waiting room.

If you're not familiar with Peace Walker, there is an R&D tree in that game too, but you have to go back to base to use it. The development times in this demo will have been removed, so I think normally you could be waiting 1 days worth of phantom cigar smoke to develop an item during a mission.

Yeah I think a construction and maintenance group for building and repairing facilities. Looks like the support group will be on mess hall duties!

Never played any of the PSP versions, so the the upgrade system is new to me. I think you're probably right on the hexagons being the construction tab. Maybe there will be a way to upgrade Mother Base to make the units more efficient, like shooting ranges and dojo's for combat or radar station for intel or even a hospital for the medical unit. Like the fact that you can fulton AA guns.

Weird that there's no brig and everyone just joins you immediately. They should put the brig in and have it be an accessible location. So when someone attacks your MB, they can rescue prisoners or set them free to aid the attack.

I think that's just for the demo, there is a cell icon on the menu. So they hacked it to show that people can be captured and assigned to jobs without over-explaining the real process.
In fact, the guards he Fultoned are still in-transit to Mother Base when he reaches the target building! Then he gets a notification to say they arrived.

I really like the whole mother base idea in tpp and glad you can use your army this time to help you out in a mission. Also i'm loving the design of the base and that you can manage mother base via idroid.

Yes, we're in for a very cool game. I like that feature where if you take a soldier from an area you're actively on a mission in and place him in your Intel unit he will be able to show you areas where guards or items of interest will be.

Also, i wonder how the Air Strike will work or if it will come into play in any "Boss Battles". I also wonder what other types of abilities like Air Strike we will have at our disposal.

I feel like a little kid again waiting for this game and geeking out over all the cool stuff that we'll be able to do in it.

It would be weird not being able to customize clothing of the soldiers due to base attacks - it could be great way to know which "clan" they are in and so on.

Thats one thing I'm wondering. If there's going to be a MGO (if there is one at all) option to attack other peoples base or will it just be random enemies from the story attack out of revenge.

I'm hoping that there will be more integration of Mother Base within a mobile app. I think it was mentioned before.

I hope Snakes outfits and body astethics aren`t pre-set to each location. Hopefully we can customize his hair, eyepatch, even his beard. Think about how cool it could be. Wearing the biker jacket along with the dust goggles and a shemag.

Hopefully the arm can be customized to different colors. Maby we can decide to use the prostethic hook-arm?

That's a longshot, since it would probably screw up the cutscenes.

MGS4 allows you to go to cutscenes wearing face camo - which will ruin pretty much all facial expressions that Snake is doing. But you got a point - it would be weird seeing Big Boss grabbing an object and holding it in the air with a hook.

I hope there's an interior area to Mother Base... Like an office area or where the soldiers sleep etc. It won't feel like a proper base if it's all outside.
