If it at least was realistic, had a hard time vanishing in the sky and being influenced by wind, being retrieved by the chopper and getting risk of being spotted by the enemy and causing an alert or shoot-down, then I wouldnīt mind it, because it equals the challenge of extraction by chopper.
Oh, a thread for my thoughts. The cartoonish unrealism of the fulton breaks the MGS immersion. Itīs so ridiculous to send to the air living beings and very heavy objects at high speed, that being in the same game where gravity and wind have a enormous impact on the bulletīs trajectory. And yeah, like the other gentleman said, itīs a lazy way to get rid of the enemiesīs bodies, and a lazy way to retrieve people. I liked GZīs helicopter extraction system a lot, and I was amazed by Kazīs epic rescue in the E3 2013 trailer, bringing this shit back kills both the point (that had a epic getaway from the place he was being held to the chopper) and thrill (if KojiPro decides to let the players just fulton Kaz, which is unlikely) of the mission. If it at least was realistic, had a hard time vanishing in the sky and being influenced by wind, being retrieved by the chopper and getting risk of being spotted by the enemy and causing an alert or shoot-down, then I wouldnīt mind it, because it equals the challenge of extraction by chopper.
But Fulton recovery is a real thing. The unrealistic part is that you can recover many different targets within a matter of seconds, but the concept of immediate extraction of targets through Fulton is actually real (watch The Dark Knight to for an example of how it could be used in real life).
Also, I'm sure that extraction of specific targets like Kaz will have to be done by chopper, since Fulton has a chance of failing, and targets like Kaz who are very exhausted probably won't survive the Fulton extraction.
I saw the movie. Batman didnīt just put something in the chinese guyīs back that magically turned into a balloon and made them both jet at full speed up in the sky while screaming who-hoooo and then disappearing. That was a believable, and realistic scene, not something you watch and say "how fucked up". Besides, Iīm really favorable of having cool and real ways to contract soldiers besides the obscure methods Kaz uses to convince ANYONE to join him. Fultoning everyone who crosses your path is a lazy way to build up your army, Kojima Regarding your argument that there is a risk to the fulton recovery being failed, sorry, I have to say this: the whole extraction process is ridiculous. Snake taps a guy/sheep/jeep/containerīs back, then the balloon magically appears ready to fly away and disappear in the sky faster than Team Rocket blasting off a the speed of light Again, if KojiPro took advantage of MGSVīs current "realistic game"īs fame and did a believable, limited and challenging fulton recovery, I would be more than convinced that Kazīs extraction via Fulton might be dangerous.

Here's my understanding of the process: Snake doesn't just "tap" on the guys soldiers, he attaches the balloon (which inflates after he attaches it) on them. After that, it starts going up until it gets attached to a pick up airplane, and this is when they suddenly fly away.

@CJS The time it takes for Batman to "fulton" is about 10 seconds more than the time it takes to fulton TPP enemies. So basically if it took 10 more seconds to fulton an enemy in TPP, you would have no issues?

@Risev and ZetsubouNoNnoitra, well I never see any plane attaching anything to the balloon, and honestly, I always thought that was the sound of a helicopter And that plane would have to be flying into space, because the balloon flies straight up.
@Kelesishiro, at least Batman fulton inflates and gradually rises in those 10 seconds, and itīs picked up by a visible plane, different of MGSīs invisible device that pulls the thing straight up.
Guys, sorry if Iīm dragging this, I already exposed my full ideas on this feature, and basically, I donīt like it for the many reasons I explained. I wonīt disturb peace here, anymore.

Don't worry about it. This is a topic discussing this issue after all.
Anyways, the problem, as you said, isn't the Fulton mechanic itself (since it is more or less real), but that the planes (or choppers) that pick up the extracted soldiers are never there in the first place, we only hear sounds. This is where player convenience trumps realism. After all, if we have to actually wait a few minutes for a plane to come, extract the target, and then fly away (rinse and repeat for every Fulton target), it'd get irritating. Sure, it'd be awesome to look at in the first 2 hours, but 20 hours into the game, you just want to get things done. So I personally think that it's for the best that it is done in this "unrealistic" manner.
That said, the Fulton system still needs a lot of balancing as it is. Disregarding the question of realism, it would make the game way too easy as it is. However, I'm sure that they'll balance it out with the economy in the game. Give you a reason not to extract every single target.

Yeah it feels annoying especially when they are going for more realism but it is more practical and if balanced correctly then I don't see any problem with it

Few things regarding the fulton 1)when you fulton a guard while they are still conscious it doest attract any attention. In the demo some of them are literally yelling and screaming and shit with other guards in the vicinity and don't here shit they're not even suspicious in the least. It would be so much better if they tweaked the mechanic a bit so that guards aren't completely blind to the fulton and the screams of their comrades. That's my only real gripe with it so far...
2)I'm not too worried about it being broken because it does cost money to use regardless of what the final cost of using one in game will be as opposed to the amount (300 Gmp) shown in the demo it's still going to cost something so that balances it somewhat right off the bat. I get the feeling that in the demo they had massive amounts of in game currency stictly for the purposes of showing feature of the game. furthermore I also have a feeling that the fulton was like maxed out or upgraded in the demo because to me it would make sense for the purpose of keeping the mechanic balanced that each level of fulton would have weight restrictions on what can be extracted. So when you first start out you can only extract soliders then when it's upgraded you can extract things like vehicles and shipment containers etc like in the demo. I think that would definitely balance things out a bit more while adding depth strategy and realism to the mechanic. I really hope kojima is still listening to these type of suggestions because that would really improve the game And I'm sure others will agree.

No, there's no plane in TPP. They're using choppers as Miller says it's cheaper. It can't be seen but why is it hard to imagine it's doing a high altitude pickup to avoid getting shot down?
And why are we even discussing real life tactics in a video game? Some things NEED to be changed. A completely realistic game wouldn't be playable.
#1 īCourse I did. There is a difference between the balloon slowly gaining heights and moving in the sky thanks to the wind and that miraculous invention of MGSV not being able to jet into the sky like a missile because of a sandstorm.
What? You said you want it to be influenced by the wind and the demo tell you it is.

[Caps Lock] WHAT EVEN MORE!? They are taken up virtually horizontally at high speed.
Imagine trying to be realistic with Fulton? You'd have to knock out the soldier and move him to a place with a clear flight path.

MGSVīs fulton has no air vehicle to pull the balloon
Yeah, apart from the chopper that's always been present since PW What did you think was happening? Was the balloon floating back to base on it's own?
lol, CJS, you say these things like MGS has always been a realistic game. Y'know, the games that have giant bipedal robots, people that ressurect from severed limbs and a guy who can shoot hornets out of his mouth.
As I said earlier: I don't mind Kojima sacrificing a bit of realism for Fulton Recovery to be possible.
lol @ people who are Kojima's throat for fulton being unrealistic, but seem to pay no mind that the Cardboard Box lands perfectly on you from the fucking sky and flys back again in high speed when you unequip it.
Suede
lol well yeah if there aint no doritos then whats the point in living?
Demo GMP: 98200 Demo MotherBase Level: 9 Demo Fulton cost: -300 GMP MGSV:TPP Actual starting GMP?: GTFO MGSV:TPP Actual starting Motherbase Level?: 1 Believing a Gameplay Demo is anything other than showing off all features in a small amount of time without plot spoilers: Priceless.
lol @ people who are Kojima's throat for fulton being unrealistic, but seem to pay no mind that the Cardboard Box lands perfectly on you from the fucking sky and flys back again in high speed when you unequip it.
Oh people were bitching about everything to do with the Cardboard Box, from its mere presence to the fact that it now falls from the sky. It's just that now they've moved their focus to Fulton balloons.
Worst case scenario: Fulton is as broken as people on this and the Gameplay Presentation thread have made it out to be. And you know what? I'd still take. Certainly better than a lot of the suggestions thrown about, and at least a 1000000x better than having to carry soldiers to a truck or LZ (that shit is not fucking fun in the slightest).
Just as long as KojiPro makes sure to limit the amount of Fulton Recoveries you can do per mission to, say, 10-15 uses, all will be fine.
lol @ people who are Kojima's throat for fulton being unrealistic, but seem to pay no mind that the Cardboard Box lands perfectly on you from the fucking sky and flys back again in high speed when you unequip it.

My statement did not include everyone who did that. Only those that were too hapy about the box's return XD
I like how everyone just assumes we're going to have an infinite amount of balloons or Fultons or whatever you want to call them to just collect every enemy, every vehicle, every crate, etc.
Kojima already stated that we'll have a limited supply. I'm sure eventually after we level everything up we'll have an infinite amount, but as we play through the game we won't be able to just Fulton everything we see.
Yeah look at the demo for Peace Walker, the boss fight gave you enough fultons to blah blah blah blah blah fucking blah
This isn't Peace Walker, bub.
