Its not returning plus wouldn't make sense due to the fact that you have your own army. Although apparently there is some medicinal herbs that can be found.

Having an army doesn't remove your need to eat whilst in the field. I'd have preferred there to be survival gameplay but sadly it doesn't appear to be in the game.

That would be awesome.
Especially since TPP is aiming to be more realistic I imagine it would be more realistic wound treatment so you would need a safe spot and time to treat wounds. That would be more interesting than MGS3's quick menu healing.
And it could be like you get a wound from for example every bullet you get hit by.
Food could also be like there's an animation when you eat.
But TPP will be great anyway.

Why hunt when you can return to base at any time and eat a hot cooked meal. Survival isn't the focus of this game.

That, plus drop boxes delivered. But yeah, it doesn't look like it would be in this game nor would there be the need for it. We know there's a sickbay as well for medical assistance too. Survival mechanics were GREAT for MGS3, but just not a needed feature in this case.

there's a new aspect of survival that i'll take over eating animals any day:

surviving animals.

we not only need to be mindful of packs of wolves as we saw in that one demo

I thought it worked in MGS3 since Snake was on his own running around a jungle for most of the game. For MGS4, it was replaced by the Psyche bar, which fitted in with the story which involved the effect of nanomachines on the mental capability of soldiers. These sorts of things fitted in with the story.
However, the stamina bar did not work in MPO. It was incredibly annoying and didn't seem to serve a purpose. Given that in MGSV, you can drive in vehicles, it would not serve a purpose. Similarly, a cure menu would not be appropriate since the one of the themes, unlike MGS3, isn't survival.
From a story standpoint, I think it would take away from Big Boss' toughness if he defeated by a lack of food.
That's an enemy signature...

I agree with most of the previous replies. There isn't much place in TPP for the survivalist aspect to return, especially when you can just get supply drops or call in an evac back to MB.

It's said you need to fix certain parts of your body that are injured in the field.
Sounds like a medical system similar to Far Cry.

You stop right fucking there and apologies Infiltrator . CIA is many things; a has been meme master, a baneposter who ran it to the ground so bad to where it stopped being funny, a complete and utter podcast tsundere but I will NOT allow you to call him a shitty Gary Stu who killed a 7 part book series. That's just mean and unfair.

Sorry if I sound angry but this was too much, even with the strike in mind.

This, MGS3 didn't really do the whole survival thing very well, there was always plenty of animals in almost every single map and every other place had a food storage building with either rations or calorie mates, and medical supplies weren't all that hard to get either, just toss a grenade in the middle of the jungle and you'll get a bunch of stuff from the plants that give you medical supplies.

Then there's the waterfall pond after getting your gear back from Eva that had enough fish in it to last you from then to the end of the game as long as you didn't stop playing long enough for it to rot and knocked Eva's shit out and dragged her through the jungle.

The survival aspects of MGS3 didn't really do much more than pad things out, hell if you ask me, Minecraft does the whole surviving off the land thing better than MGS3 did.

The food mechanic was a one time thing unfortunately, because it made sense for Snake Eater. Considering we can have equipment dropped into the field for us whenever we need it, hunting for food is unnecessary. I would like to see another game with Snake Eater style survival mechanics, though.

Yes, but not for food, you put them in a zoo.

If you access justeat.com through your iDroid I'm pretty sure you can order a chinese take away to be delivered to Snake's exact location via helicopter.

Going off of the "secondary resource bars" from MGS3 and 4, do you think there will be any sort of out-of-combat stuff to keep track of in TPP?

I'd assume it just Mother Base management, since you will have to keep an eye on that when out in the field.
