So its clear the mood of the MGSV subforum is one of massive hype and excitement for what is looking to be the greatest game in the series. But putting hype aside for a moment though, are you concerned that a particular aspect or feature of the game may prove to be disappointing? You may still love the game, and I know I will because it is a much bigger and more refined Ground Zeroes, but that does not mean you will like every aspect of it. If you had to guess based on your impressions so far, what aspects of the game do you think you may end up disappointed with? I'll list my "concerns/doubts" that I have to start: 1. That too much of the story will be tucked away in cassette tapes, OR crammed in via Kaz or Ocelot chatting incessantly into your ear while you are on missions. I never really minded the total length of cutscene and codec moments in previous games, what bothered me was that it chopped up the gameplay too much, that it made it too start/stop. I think we have good reason to believe that same problem won't apply to MGSV, but its possible Kojima went too far in the other direction and skimped on cut scenes in favor of cramming the story into the codec and cassette tapes. And of course it was HORRIBLE having to listen to Kaz constantly in Ground Zeroes. That is easily my biggest grievance regarding Ground Zeroes since I played it so much. 2. That there won't be a MGO beta, and they will have server issues for weeks and weeks after launch. Then only to have Konami yank the server support after a year or year and a half. 3. Too much paranormal and sci-fi elements. In an interview way back Kojima said the game was about 80% normal to 20% paranormal elements, but from all the crazy shit we have seen so far it seems his "20 percent" will feel more like 40 to 50 percent. I don't mind a little paranormal or scifi, but too much can detract from the mature exploration of the theme/subject matter. 4. No hard or greater than hard difficulties to start. I think normal difficulty would be much too easy for me, and I would ideally prefer to start out on a difficulty level above hard from the get go, to make a more memorable first playthrough. Kojima Productions should know this is important to cater to those of us who have played a little too much of Ground Zeroes. The idea of having to unlock greater difficulty levels is stupid anyways, just a restriction preventing us from customizing our gameplay experience. Since the game is supposed to be so huge, and episodic in nature, they probably should just make it so you can change the difficulty level at any time back at Motherbase. As opposed to being one save one difficulty level that is unchangeable. Edited by abstract-one, May 26 2015, 09:17:46 PM.

1. I'm concerned to the game maybe too long. I don't have as much time as I used to, which may mean I will have to play the game in spurts. Like once per week or so, which may cause me to have a disjointed experience. 2. I'm mildly concerned that the protagonist, the main heroine and the main rival apparently don't have much dialogue. 3. I'm hoping for a game where some of the characters we've come across in previous games( like Eva, Gurlukovich, Gray Fox, Ocelot etc) get their story arc fleshed out. We already know a lot about the Big Boss story so I hope the game isn't too focused on that. |

I think its pretty much confirmed that we have to sit trough cassette tapes in order to get the full picture. I probably wont do it, I might as well know it by word of mouth online and save myself those hours I think Keifersnake will be a bit quiet in this game sadly Kojima handeling sensitive issues, he,is simply not the best for this. Look at GZ, he made Paz have TWO bombs just to make it edgy. Because one was not enough since they needed to show that edgy procedure of bomb extraction and take down the chopper. The camera angles also shows that he is doing it for shock value and edgyness. The camera uneccesarly zooms too much when they are opening Paz, it felt as if in,you face kind of thing |

I remember playing the virtuous mission and thinking that i loved the story and how it felt grounded in reality. And then i got to the bridge that had crying Russian ghosts and bees. I'm also worried we've seen everything. We'll just do Afghanistan and Africa and maybe a few side areas like camp omega and that's it. |

I think we'll know all major stuff through cutscenes. Those who want more details though will have to hunt for the tapes, which makes sense to me. If you want to enjoy the game to its fullest you'll have to dedicate some time to it, and I find the tapes a nice replacement to the cutscenes in MGS made for the sole purpose of exposition and explanation, e.g. Sokolov explaining how exactly the Shagohod works, Vamp telling Raiden about the purified hydrogen bomb, Meryl giving a lesson on how SOP works, and so many other examples. What I'm worried about though is the level design, the way they handled BB's downfall and Kiefer's voice. I'm worried that the map is too big that you'll get bored because there's not much to do between missions. In short, quality > quantity. If the story of how Big Boss has gone evil isn't convincing it may ruin the entire story. I hope they don't portray him as a misunderstood hero or as body double or something. Also I know Kiefer has done a great job so far and I can't wait to hear more of him, but I hope Big Boss isn't too silent. Hiring Kiefer would have been a waste, then. I am worried about there being too few cutscenes. Mgs4 may have gone a little overboard but I still love me some mgs cutscenes. I'm also worried about how cohesive the story will be, bein it is open world, plus having different variables (find quiet, don't find quiet type things). And I may in the minority on this but I love the paranormal in mgs. It is kind of what drew me to the series in the first place. I'd even be fine with more than a 20/80 ratio of paranormal. I want lots of psycho mantis fuckery. Lots of wtf moments, eerie scenes, and a general mystic feeling. As long as it's done well, the bees in 3 were a little too cheesy I admit though. |

regarding cassette tapes? tbh, i'm not concerned about those at all. i think we'll get the cutscenes we need, and that's all i can ask for. the tapes are added background details that change the surface of what we see in-game with story, much like how the tapes in arkham city revealed a number of secrets we otherwise wouldn't have learned about ac's story. it's added depth which is far more rewarding an unlockable than some of the alternatives i've seen tbh. so i'm not worried about that even remotely, and i hope for many more tapes in mgsv. here are the only things that really concern me about mgsv: mgs has always had strong characters of genders and race, and i hope that trend continues. with mgsv, the only female character we have is quiet, who may very well be the ultimate badass of mgs, but she's still completely optional. and that lack of presence runs the risk of making mgsv a sausage fest...and one of those sausages is charred and burnt. any of those goddamn theories being true. mgsv has the possibility of having the best story with zero convolution to date, but if kiefersnake or skull face is anyone besides kiefersnake or skull face, i'm out. reason be damned. no boss fight with skull face. kojima confirmed we were getting traditional 'human bosses' again, and i'm all but certain that includes skull face, and i will be deeply, deeply disappointed if it doesn't, especially after everything he did. in 30 minutes of tape alone, he's become my favorite mgs villain to date, and that will be rendered moot if we don't get a wicked fight to complement his character. mgo3 not having the music select option. that was one thing that truly separated mgo from other online games; a game that allows you to really appreciate its' stellar soundtrack in the midst of any battle you see fit, and with mgsv's score thus far, i'd be remiss if i couldn't appreciate that in the head of battle the way i could with past mgs games. i bring this up because this game has many elements of pw, and pw's online lacked that option. bugs. this game has been in the works for at least 4+ years if memory serves. and they said making a game like this open can create problems. i don't want such a beautiful concept and a full experience we already know to be good from gz to be hindered by technical difficulties. i mean, i sincerely doubt it will suffer the way unity did at launch, but over ambition can be as much a hindrance as it can be a blessing. this is a weird one, but i want mgsv to earning 10's left and right the way mgs4 was. gz was classified by so many as an "overpriced demo" and it still managed to grab 8's and 7's, even some 9's. i want critics to be amazed by mgsv as i know i will be. i want the good of mgsv to more than outweigh any bads this game might have, and the biggest one i can see biting it in the ass is the lack of a strong female presence, and those select few who still think recasting hayter was a mistake. the god honest truth is, some of my earlier concerns have already been sated by the journalist posts and the trailers. i am 100% certain that the side ops will at least mostly be as fleshed out and versatile as the ones in gz, which means they will each possess tons of options to go about them. and i am all but confident that we will finally see big boss descend into the demon he becomes in mg1 and 2, and that he will cross a line in mgsv that there is no going back from; one ocelot will willingly follow him into, and kaz will abandon him on as a result. |

- Post Release Support. With Konami in the shit storm it is I worry if they're going to take care of the game after it's release, there are still a number of annoying issues with the PC version of GZ and nothing is being done to fix them, I'm worried that the game won't have a lot of support after release. - In Game Codec I hate the Codec in GZ, absolutely despise it, I'm sick of hearing Kaz's voice pop up suddenly and annoy me, the great thing about the past Codecs is they're all in their own little segments and can be skipped, while in GZ you have to put up with Kaz's annoying voice constantly bothering you, I hope that the story isn't put too much into this and I also hope you can disable the in game Codec like you can disable reflex mode because the Codec just sucks now or at least let every codec call be optional like you have to answer to hear it otherwise you can ignore it if you wish. - Length This isn't really a concern for the game so much as a concern for the players and how the feedback will affect future games in general. For me hearing that the game is going to take over 2 days to just get a measly 10% into the game made me SO happy, I hate gamers that try to rush games in 6-8 hours just for the sake of the story, people like that should just go watch a YT video playthrough if all they play for is the story. My concern is MGS5 is going to be a wonderfully "HOLY SHIT this is long" game with SO much to do that will cause story hounds to whine, complain and cause that feedback to catch on to other games and we'll just get more Story & Cutscenes > Gameplay games which will suck. I see people whining and bitching about GTA 5 having a lot of content to play around with instead of focusing more on creating a better story and shit, as shit of a game as Mortal Kombat X is, people are still whining about the short story mode and are telling the devs to sacrifice content in the next game to focus on the story. That pisses me the fuck off!!! I'm concerned people are gonna forget that this is a video game, not a movie or a book and then complain about it not being a better movie or book. - Only Snake being playable In Peace Walker I loved the idea of being able to play as a faceless soldier with no personality because I prefer silent protagonists or even protags who's dialog comprises of just oneliners like Duke Nukem, Rex Power Colt etc, but even though it was said that Snake will be pretty silent in this game, I'd very much prefer being able to play as a random Diamond Dog that I can make up a story for and such since I like doing that in my games, especially open world games. I hope playable Diamond Dogs is possible in MGS5, if not I could just resort to mods since I'll be getting the PC version. Still I think MGS5 is going to be one hell of a game. A slight worry I have is that the story, like in Peace Walker, won't feel that coherent due to the episodic format. I'm also worried that there won't be text chat in MGO. Can't think of anything else, really. |

Talking about the cassette tapes, personally I didn't have a problem with them in GZ, I just listened to them as I played. Considering how long some of the missions will be in this game, I'll be happy with listening to them. |

With Ocelot in the game the plot can't suck. Since GZ was more of a bridge, I see this game more of a prequel to MGS1 than a sequel to PW. |

When you interrogate guards and get info, that gets updated on the iDroid. And even when you collect that info (weapon, target, etc.), it still stays on the iDroid and doesn't disappear, right? Is this a good thing or bad to you? To me, I don't really like that. Once I collect the thing that got marked, it should disappear so I know I've got it. But suppose I drop that weapon somewhere else, then I suppose it should appear on the iDroid again? |
