I don't think it'll be back in the same way, it should be like Peace Walker where you're free/encouraged to replay any mission, so I expect some kind of emblem+insignia system again for achieving certain quotas instead. Edited by Jim Houseman, Jun 5 2015, 07:59:21 PM.

I agree, but for different reasons. For narrative, having other characters give light to his feelings on things is too tricky to do, since they won't be ventriloquist's dummies for him to speak through. I'm playing a predefined character, and I want HIM to actually give his views and feelings on something. I don't want to sift through other people's interpretations of Big Boss, even if those interpretations are written by the person who'd be writing Big Boss anyway. As for your reason, I wouldn't worry about the personality making sense. I'll use myself as an example: I've punched a few people in my life (I mean a few as in "only a few", not like "hey, whoa, I'm badass, I've hit a lot of dudes!"), but never whilst out of control. I had to know hitting the person was the decision I wanted to make, and that I'd be willing to put up with any ramifications of doing so. Obviously, I don't just walk down the street punching people, so when I do, it is a very self-controlled, willful thing, reserved for very special circumstances. I'd view Big Boss's personality similar to that, keeping it realistic - full of emotion and desired reaction, but under complete and responsible self-control. It'd make for a better leader of the eventual outer Heaven, wouldn't it? |

I find the reasoning of him being silent stupid. Yes, it's easy to relate to a war loving psychopath who can't get over the death of his mother like figure. |

The idea that Big Boss is quiet for the player to project himself unto is downright fucking stupid. I'm not playing TES, i'm playing the game that will end a story arc that's been running for what, 4 games now? with a pre defined character. I did not make Big Boss, and thus Big Boss should be independent from me. The whole ''others characters express his feelings'' is also a really bad idea, for reasons stated before. The pro-conspiracy side of me thinks those are excuses to pay Kiefer less. |

i stand by what i said initially on the subject, and will paraphrase it here because i'm still not worried about silent bb in the slightest. from what we have seen this far, kiefersnake talks when is needed and during story oriented cutscenes instead of briefing cutscenes. having him talk less, for me, is a blessing because there's next to chance he'll just regurgitate the same thing the other person said with a question mark the way he and all mgs protagonists have done in the past. in each story oriented scene we've seen him in this far, he speaks naturally, has his own voice, and more importantly, a far more commanding presence and air. he still also spoke plenty in the briefing tapes, without wasting dialogue like past games. all of those cuts, i more than welcome. i stopped concerning myself about them wanting to pay kiefersnake less when they had him playing 2 separate characters, because they can most certainly afford him. but having someone on board doesn't mean you have to shoehorn as much dialogue as you can out of him. so long as he continues to speak the amount we've seen in scenes come mgsv, i am content. additionally, i stand by quality over quantity, and with the newer quotes being revealed, i'm already vastly more captivated by kiefersnake than previous big boss. now, in regards to disappointment of previous entries, that's a fair point. mind you, i disagree whole heartedly, but i know many here don't. what differentiates mgsv from all of those, however, is it's not spec or beta footage we've been seeing this is all been the real deal since day 1. there's literally nothing in the demos that can suddenly be removed because each feature was heavily harped on again and again and we've continued seeing it all throughout. and that's not even getting into the fact that we've experienced what mgsv has to offer with gz. so we know the gameplay won't suddenly be nerfed down in the end, or suddenly our enemies and their formations won't be as they appeared in-game. it's fair concern, but if these past few years have taught me anything, it's not a concern we need to have with mgsv. the ai; at base or worst, will play out like gz. but we know already that time and weather affects them, that our actions lead to them doing things like sporting helmets, or creating holding patterns with choppers and so on. and i would say, unlike pw, we have extensive previews to attest the vastness and versatility the game had to offer. whereas pw focused its previews mainly on co-op play and little else. as for the spoiler tagged back and forth, it's fine, so long as it relates to mgsv and so long as it remains civil. but any talk of witcher 3 is best left for pm or even the goty thread. (and it still better be civil.) |

LOL I think you guys are letting your imagination get the better of you. Kojima said Snake won't talk that much like Max in Mad Max 2. I saw both Mad Max 2 and Fury Road a couple of days ago and what I notice is very similar to the Quiet trailer. Max doesn't speak that much because the scenes with alot of characters don't focus on him. He speaks when characters are confused about what to do next and gets everyone behind a single directive very much like how the Quiet trailer doesn't show Snake all that much but then he comes in....like a boss. Most likely Snake won't speak that much in the beginning but when emotions from all characters start embroil, He'll step up. Plus the facial expressions are top notch. |

When you're playing a mission as Cool Crocodile instead of Big Boss you won't be asking yourself why he doesn't talk much during missions. |

MGO is my biggest concern about mgsv.. Marking+seeing people through walls, and sharing all of that with your whole team... dumbest **** I've ever heard of. Add e locators to the mix... no word of survival matches limits skills and equipment to 3 classes (ala destiny/BF) a class that gets stealth camo.. for use in EVERY MATCH.. add vehicles/mechs...(ala Destiny/BF) preorder golden camo for your guns yea, I seriously have no respect for the person who came up with all these ideas. they arnt trying to make a NEW MGO. theyre trying to make a new BF/COD/Destiny...and that sucks. |

The scene was purely in there to cause a shock factor. Leaving that scene out and just having the Paz`s snuke bomb go off in the end would not have had an affect on the story. |

No its a bit much to say I'm only imagining it. At around the 21 minute 20 seconds mark they start talking about how quiet Big Boss is: Yes I know the 'Mad Max' leadership style moments will be there. We saw some of that in the Quiet trailer. But I think those moments will be relatively few. They say there are cut scenes where characters go back and forth talking in a long convo, and Big Boss isn't saying anything. He is just "talked at" by characters like Kaz and Ocelot.
Its no doubt much better than having him ask a bunch of stupid questions constantly. But I don't think we have to create that false dichotomy, where he is either asking stupid questions or being very very quiet. I don't think he will be quiet in the cassette tapes he is in, but he will be in the cutscenes. Edited by abstract-one, Jun 10 2015, 01:25:54 AM.

I understand him being quiet at the beginning, but I hope he talks more as the game progresses. Also, it's not one or the other: it's not like when he's not quiet he's just regurgitating statements as questions. He can be having normal conversations about his ideals, plans, feelings, etc. Since he's going to be such a big leader, he needs to communicate these things. |

What matters is how much he talks in the story. Cassettes won't redeem a quiet Big Boss. |

I couldn't imagine walking without years of physical therapy, or even having the ability to speak. Since I do hear people have to relearn the ability to talk after being in a coma for so long. But since this is a game. I'm just kidding btw, not trying to be a dick, I know you know that. I think its supposed to be his emotional state that has him so quiet, rather than him still just being "out of it" due to the coma. But still Kojima could have him speak more if he wanted to, and bend the explanations however needed to account for it. |
