https://artisticexpression.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/is-quiet-really-chico-reasons-for-and-against/ One of the biggest fan theories floating around the net is that the beautiful Quiet played by Stephanie Joosten is actually the little Sandanista soldier boy introduced in Peace Walker, Chico. Chico, as you may know if you’ve played the games or have even a basic understanding of Spanish, is a male. Its a fun theory to think about but no real hard evidence has been provided. http://www.nowgamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/340706.png Some of the points the theory’s supporters raise are as follows: · Same color eyes · Similar head structure. · Same hair color · Same nose structure · Based off of appearance alone, Quiet seems to be at around the same age Chico would be 9 years after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes. He was 12 then and would be 21 nine years later. Quiet seems to be in that age range. · Chico has not been seen in a single MGSV The Phantom Pain trailer. Not a single one. This could mean several things. 1.) It could mean that he perished in the Vagina explosion at the end of Ground Zeroes. 2.) It could mean that maybe he plays such a pivotal role later on, that he cannot for any reason be shown yet without spoiling a major part of the game…. such as being Quiet. For those unaware, Chico was actually a very important character in Ground Zeroes, and he also played an excellent part in Peace Walker. I cannot honestly believe Hideo Kojima would simply toss him aside without even a mention in these trailers. There is a scene in the redband trailer where a Diamond Dog soldier is water-boarding Quiet. I found out it was Quiet only after initially believing it was an adult Chico. They looked so similar that my initial understanding was that this person being water-boarded was Chico. Upon further inspection, it becomes obvious that its actually Quiet. There are those elements abound in Metal Gear boards who relish ripping apart this theory. The most ardent ones believe the Chico = Quiet theory is absurd on the level of the “Big Boss is not really Big Boss” and other ridiculous theories. These are their ultimate “proofs” that the theory is bogus. After listing them, I will then explain why they are not proofs at all. · During a podcast, Stephanie Joosten confirmed Chico is not Quiet: For one, she wouldn’t know. She’s just an actress. Voice actors and or other actors involved in games typically aren’t in the creative process behind a game’s story. David Hayter, as big a star as he was, never penned a single thing for Metal Gear. Nor is he kept in the know regarding secret twists. What makes you think Joosten, a total newcomer would be in the know regarding a twist this big? Furthermore, let’s imagine that she did know. Why would she admit it? Think about that. Why would she give away such a huge twist like that? Another thing that needs mentioning is that her character Quiet does not talk, hence the name. Whether that is by choice or because she is mute is currently unknown, but we do know that Quiet can hum. That is something that can be voice acted by a male or female. We can also go on to say that since Chico is Quiet, if it is in fact true, that he would’ve made a full transition from male to female, and that would include taking hormones that would feminize his voice. Or maybe he just trained his voice to sound more feminine? Who knows. Stephanie Joosten also made it clear that her belief was that Quiet was a woman. Well, if any of you are even somewhat versed in today’s gender politics, you would know that some consider it politically incorrect to refer to a male to female transgender person as a man. Assuming that this theory is true and that she has insider knowledge, perhaps Joosten really does see Quiet as a woman instead of a man? · The theory started as a joke so therefore it cannot under any circumstance be even remotely true. Seriously, the logic behind this statement is baffling. Weren’t Galileo’s findings thought to be a joke? If some guy 400 years ago jokingly said that all life forms on this planet have a common ancestor, would that disprove the theory of evolution today? No, of course not. It doesn’t matter if a theory starts out as a joke. This one in particular is no where near as absurd as some of the other theories we’ve seen pop up on Metal Gear boards. Its actually pretty grounded in reality and entirely possible. Humans make authentic looking male to female transitions now, why can’t it be done in Metal Gear? · It can’t be Chico because Chico had bolts in his ankles, and Quiet is seen effortlessly jumping around in The Phantom Pain trailers. No, its entirely possible to recover from such injuries. Plus, you’re forgetting one simple thing. This is Metal Gear. Real world rules need not apply. Why would Chico become Quiet? Some would say that the shock and trauma he suffered as a Camp Omega prisoner led to some sort of a mental shut-down. After being captured in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Chico snitched on his “compas” while being tortured. This affected him so much that he said, “I wish I was dead”. His big sister Amanda told Snake that when he found Chico, if he was about to sell out his compas, to at least let him keep his honor. This of course meant she wanted Snake to kill Chico. When Chico said, “I wish I was dead”, Big Boss was seemingly willing to grant his request but instead does not. He shoots a picture of Chico, and says, “I just wasted a bullet, don’t waste your life”. What followed was one of the best speeches in the entirety of the Metal Gear series. In Ground Zeroes, Chico is partially responsible for the total destruction of Mother Base, by then known as Outer Heaven. How? Because it was his decision to run away and look for Paz in a ill-thought out, one-kid rescue attempt. He sneaked into Camp Omega and was eventually captured by the Marines. Skullface at one point has Chico record an audio cassette message to Big Boss and Mother Base. This is what sets the events we see later on into motion. During his captivity, he was forced by Skullface to sexually assault Paz. They viciously tortured her in front of him. At one point he believes they killed her (She would later die at the end of the game in the infamous Vagina explosion scene). Let’s review that. · Chico snitched on his compas and it took a huge toll on him emotionally. · Chico sees Paz, a girl he had become fond of, betray Mother Base and then watches her fall into the sea, presumably to her death at the end of Peace Walker. · After being captured, Chico has bolts placed into his ankles which prevent him from walking. · Chico then is forced to sexually assault Paz during their imprisonment at Camp Omega. · Chico sees this girl beaten and tortured to the brink of death and at one point believes she was killed. · Chico relays a message to Big Boss which prompts him to start a rescue operation. This operation was used by Skullface as an opportunity to attack and destroy Mother Base. · Chico is then involved in a major helicopter crash, which if he survived, we can assume he suffered even more great injuries. Chico got screwed immensely. This all had to take a gigantic toll on him emotionally and his mental state. Maybe he decides to never speak again? A common thing associated with Chico in both Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes is the usage of the word, “Man”. Big Boss says to him, “You’re a new man now Chico”. Skullface says to him, “No more war games, you’re a real man now”. They both say to him in the same exact words, “Chico, growing up means choosing how to live your life”. Perhaps after everything he’d been through, and everything he’d caused, the shame became too great and he no longer felt he was a “man”? Maybe he ‘chose’ to live his life as a mute woman who can never again snitch, and who can never be a real ‘man’? Who knows… let’s wait for Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain to finally release this September. Personally, I hope the theory is true though I won’t hold my breath. I want it to be true mostly because I don’t think it’s ever been done before, at least not to this scale, and because I’d love to see the shock on the faces of all those nay-sayers. They already said that theory is wrong twice. First time on Kojima Station and the second time on an interview with the actress who plays Quiet. Btw I don't think this needs an extra topic since there is a theory thread. |

Joosten wouldn't know, and no one has "confirmed" anything. Really, I address all those points in the article already. |

Joosten wouldn't know? She's a VA and extremely close to KJ, why wouldn't she know? If she says it's bullshit then this theory (even know it was stupid from the beginning) isn't true. Kojima has said that this theory isn't true. Edited by Did you rike it?, Jun 6 2015, 09:13:27 PM.

This is a pointless topic. It's already official and anyone who says different just wants this to be true no matter what Kojima and staff say. Doesn't make it true though. |

Nothing is official until the game is out. And no Joosten wouldn't know. Again, I alreadt address why she wouldn't know in the topic. But to just repeat part of what I said ... lets imagine she did know. Why would she spoil such a huge twist? |

I remember one of the big answers being "Quiet is female and Chico is male". I don't know much about the whole sex change thing, but I'm assuming they define their own gender. The Konami style lost in translation explanation wasn't much of a debunk. It would be hard to believe they'd let Kojima get away with putting a skimpy doll with squishy boobs out on sale to later consumers that it's a dude. It's not hard to see Kojima wanting to do it. It's just hard to see them letting him do it. They didn't let Kojima have his original MGS4 ending with Snake and Otacon being hung. They ignored Kojima when he wanted Gray Fox to be Metal Gear Rising's protagonist. Kojima doesn't always get his way and he listens to his staff. One of the new pieces of info could be for or against the theory. Spoiler: click to toggle While the theory is interesting, and I honestly think it'd be funny for all the perverts to reenact the ending of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, I don't really think it could be true. Lol your points against Stefanie knowing are laughable. she knows everything about the character. She said before how Kojima let her in on the creative process behind her as justification for the skimpy clothing and questionable design, she understands the character. Denying her having knowledge about it is straight up delusion. |

Neither one of these is really true. The MGS4 ending was a idea (one of a few) he had early on. And for Rising he was referring to when PG got hold of it. It was going to be about Raiden between 2 and 4. Not that this has anything to do with this theory. Just saying
