"Open World" MGS; How open should it be?

So I started thinking about this because I was reading a thread and someone mentioned how you can walk around your Mother Base it TPP. I had forgotten about that. That makes me wonder how open world this game is planning to be. What would y'all like to see?

Should it just be like a larger version of GZ? Would you guys like to see npc interactions like hiring street urchins to steal supplies/info/ make distractions? Do you want to talk to people for info? Recruitment? In-mission purchases? Basically on a scale from 'Huge GZ' to 'Metal Gear Auto' to 'Elder Gear Scrolls' what would you want to see in this game?

And what can we probably expect at this point?

Personally, I think an open world quest-based metal gear would be the craziest thing ever and I'd love it. It'd be nuts

Open enough so i don't go minutes without any action. Then again it might be nice to have remote little areas with very little or no guards.

I still have a hard time trying to imagine MGS in a truely open world setting.

I see it as having multiple large scale areas that will be cut up into chunks for missions (leaving the combat zone!), I think each full map though will be pretty big though. I see the main missions having the full map open while for side ops you'll get a segment of the full map, like the main enemy base and a bit of the nearby surroundings.

I'd like to see some interactivity in the form of non-hostile NPCs but not so much as to feel like Boss should talk to everyone in case he might miss something. It'd be interesting if there is conflicting forces in an area, you could potentially give one side a push to create a diversion or thin the enemy ranks before you head for your objective. Like the bits in MGS4 only on a larger and much more useful level.

Have you played Far Cry 3? It's probably like that, just in third person view.

Yea I was thinking it's probably gonna be something like this.
Kinda like PW levels or MGS3 but on a larger, open scale with no load times between "areas".

Thats not what I meant. I mean for the main mission we'd get GTAV for example, an entire area you can freely explore and make your way through completing side objectives and whatnot on the way to your main objective.

Then for the side ops you'd basically just have a specific area of those full maps, with invisible line around the sides that have you leave combat area and abort mission if you get too far (essentially GZ map). Some would be as small as GZ, some would be a bit bigger but none of them will have the full map open except for the main story missions.

Thats how I think it'll be. :)

Mercenaries Playground of Destruction, just with a higher focus on stealth and capturing dudes.

The question i want the answer to is does TPP take place all in one place, like Afghanistan for instance? If it does then it will probably be just one big map like RDR or GTA... If TPP takes place in multiple countries then i see it being large chunks of open world like GZ but probably on a bigger scale, like Ev. said.

Different places. Africa is pretty much confirmed and of course Afghanistan is from the trailers.

All we can really do at this point is guess.

I'm thinking we'll get two massive maps for Afghanistan and Mozambique/South Africa, plus a GZ-sized map for our home base. We'll probably get a handful of smaller, story-specific maps as well - Stuff like the hospital in Cyprus, maybe a trip back to the Mother Base wreckage, etc.

I don't think the gameplay is going to be much different than Ground Zeroes / Peace Walker. We'll pick missions from our home base, probably with the option to choose an insertion point and time-of-day.

Wat

I've never heard of that. That'd be pretty awesome if so. I wonder how customizable the base will be exactly.

I could have sworn that was announced a looong time ago but I can't find the source now. I'm not sure how much customization there will be, but the whole point would be to watch it grow as you progress through the game. Undoubtedly something they would have done for PW if the hardware allowed it.

Open world is great and all but there's nothing like MGS indoors. That small segment indoors in GZ felt like classic Metal Gear, and hopefully there's more of that in TPP.

I've got a feeling we'll see at least one large indoor area. Probably Cipher's research lab.

Oh man that'd be so cool. That mechanic was so useless in MGS4 but it could be amazing in a true open world

I don't see GTA style open world MGS happening. It would not make any sense. I think it's going to be multiple large areas, that has multiple points of entry that you choose from before mission. Kinda like Dishonored but with larger maps.

“later on in the game, time will pass in real time, so depending on how you travel between one stage to the next, that travel time will affect the time of day when you arrive at your destination.”

we all know how the weather and time of day play a part in ground zeroes/camp omega, i just hope that this also means different patrols for day and night, maybe not though because ground zeroes needed some extra content besides the main mission, so adding different patrol routes to that game was mandatory to keep it fresh and keep you on your toes,
