I want a proper hub world and side quests, not just this side op stuff. Those are good and fun and all, but I want actual narrative side quests and quest chains.
i wouldn't be bothered if thats the way it ends up, but i disagree. i kind of want kojipro to do something else with open world games instead of what everyone else is doing (gta, saints row, assassins creed)

In every metal gear solid game there has been a section where SOMEONE dons another uniform.
MGS1 = Meryl
MGS2 = Raiden and Snake
MGS3 = Snake
MGS4 = Snake
MGSV= ? I bet! But if it was a gameplay element imagine the fun you could have. Dress like an Afghani and walk into a Soviet outpost ;).. Would be interesting to have little faction wars and you can fight alongside (undercover of course) to gain access to a base, etc.
You forgot the first Metal Gear ;) = Snake

He mentioned something interesting... Konami, they claim that what they're doing in Casinos are the missing piece... money, to surpass video games.

kojima is incredible! how the fuck have i not seen that?!
This whole Open World stuff is going to blow off in Kojima face.

TPP is going to be PW 2.0.

Urrhgg, gonna be shit then.
The blame for the malinterpretations around the nature of TPP is thanks to Kojima himself and games sites, the general public is sure that this game is gonna be Skyrim in mgs world. TPP would take a hit review wise if Kojima dosent deliver in the open world thing

Well it's because people can't quite comprehend what he means by "Open World" because they take every single word to absolute definition like it's poetry. Shit, I thought it was painfully obvious he meant "Big, Non-linear level design" as his exact words (Translated of course) were "It's really a big, open world." He's not literally saying "It's the Open World genre like GTA Guise!" he's saying "It's big, it's open, it's free. Not claustrophobic hallways split into loading screens like the last games." Like really, I completely understood how GZ would be right from the get-go and I'm wouldn't even consider myself average when it comes to reading comprehension, how are people not understanding what he meant?

Really anyone who legitimately thought MGS would take a GTA/Bethesda approach deserves a slap to the face. Is it really not obvious when they stress replayability as a selling point or the focus on planning your mission? Who replays a true open world game? There's a huge amount of people that never even finish their GTA games, let alone start replaying them. Mark my words, TPP is going to be PW 2.0. It's basically going to be setup just like GZ with the select mission structure only maybe a few different things, like maybe the ability to walk around MB liked we've been excited for. I can't wait for release to tell you all "I told you so!".

I'm okay with TPP being an open world stealth/action simulator and only that. The exact same flow as GZ, but larger and more open. No fancy additional features.

I do expect it to have a survival system, though.

It'll feel empty without a survival system or some customization aside from "Mother Base."

You can't do open world other than that way, in general format. It's the nature of the genre. To do something different sort of make sit cease to be an open world game.
Open world debate@ open world means a game like Skyrim, a game like Assassin's Creed and to lesser extent, a hub based game like Deus Ex/Thief and Dragon Age. Having large levels isn't open world, it's just sandbox. Kojima stated the game is going to be open world with content ''up to a 100 hours after completion''. Not necessarily like GTAV, but a hub based game like Deus Ex would work perfectly. It being just linear progression with mission select would just be lame and misguiding us on Kojima's part.

i don't believe it will be like GZ where you select missions, especially because they stated the side missions can be encountered on the maps (during main missions).
What i do believe is that the world is divided by maps (Afghanistan, africa,etc) and those will have to be selected somehow (travel by chopper, etc)

Exactly Aragorn, you're taking the words to absolute definition. Believe it or not language sometimes has this way of not obeying exactly to the dictionary, especially when something like Open World doesn't have a Webster definition.

Yup i think that is the way the game will be played.Motherbase, select place to go,boom.But what i would like to elaborate on, is about the size of these maps.In a scale of gta v map,say afghanistan or africa, could one of them be like half as large(as of GTAV)?

I pretty much think that is going to be mix of them.

There will be main operations selection screen and during these missions, you can discover new missions by eavesdropping on enemies or finding documents. For example when infiltrating the base you can hear soldiers talking about POWs being schedule for execution within 9 hours at the same base - which will unlock side mission where you can try to do while attempting to do the main mission or have option to attempt the mission as primary objective via mission selection screen.

If they keep the same score based system from GZ, I guess that doing those side missions during main objective will add better overall score for the mission.

I think you might be right but even if we end up having a selection menu, i think it will be a map with descriptions and we'll have to call the chopper to travel for another place.

Then he shouldn't fucking say open world, this isn't a matter of synonyms or semantics, it's two entirely different things. He was obviously feeding the hype machine like he did with MGS3 when that was supposed to be open world. Sandbox =====/===== open world. Two obvious connotations.

Well, at this point it's going to look like more of large sandbox instead of open world. I'm certainly hoping for open world but I don't really mind it being large sandbox.

There's no way in hell it's open world unless he somehow links Afghanistan and Africa into two open worlds. They're going to be very large maps basically.

It's clear from the start it was gonna be sandbox, he just misused the phrase open-world confusing it for sandbox, because you can't realistically have multiple distant countries under one open world unless Kojima struck a deal with Google Earth or something.

Then perhaps he should learn how to speak proper English to his best-paying fans. You can't simply say that, and then just chalk it up to misuse. Not something of that nature at least. Or he needs to come out correct himself and stop referring to it as open world. Do I anticipate open world? No, but you're misconstruing facts to new fans when you clearly put that as a banner in a trailer.
