I'm sure most everyone on these forums has already seen this, but for those that haven't...

Konami Won't Say Kojima's Name

I'm starting to believe that the real meaning behind "The Phantom Pain" is life for Konami after Kojima's gone.

"Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, we can feel Kojima's influence. The genius we lost, the money we lost, won't stop hurting. It's like it's all still there."

I know something like that is a joke to many, but deep down I really am starting to wonder if this really is an insanely elaborate and troll-worthy publicity stunt.

One of the main themes of MGSV is about the power of words and language and using them to control the masses by shifting trends and thoughts. I can't help but think this non-sense about not saying Kojima's name is like "La Li Lu Le Lo". Just an insane marketing strategy.

Why would they do a publicity stunt that would have a negative impact on them? It would be a really dumb move. Kojima is a victim of Konami's rebranding and that is all.

Konami probably didn't want to answer any hard questions about Kojima during interviews.

But their E3 2015 recap video did include mention of Kojima. I doubt it's a publicity stunt.

Even if it was a publicity stunt, I doubt they'd drag it out this long. That kind of publicity stunt isn't really even Kojima's style. Usually he gives a nod and a wink towards his audience, like with Moby Dick Studios.

Kojima's publicity stunts tend to bludgeon you over the head with them being publicity stunts. This really isn't like that.

Still we carry you.

Let's not blow this out of proportion. They ask people not to ask something, it happens all the time. They haven't censor his name from the game, because most of the previews mention him. They're just trying to avoid the awkward moment when their question gets ignored.

Well, regarding the subject. I think that KONAMI feels like a passenger. All you see during MGS games is....

-Hideo Kojima
-A Hideo Kojima Game
-Kojima Productions
-Created by Hideo Kojima

Maybe once you'll see... "KONAMI"... a 2nd time if you're really looking. It's like Hideo Kojima is bigger than KONAMI or makes it out that way. I mean, he was the "Voice of GOD" in one of the MGS games. He's in MGSV/Ground Zeroes. I think he's getting too big for his boots. If Konami don't even want his name being said then obviously, "somebodies ego" must have got in the way in a conversation/negotiation.

Or, maybe Hideo objected against the MGS slot machines, not wanting his life's work become a symbol of gambling and all the crap that come with it.

That's just a loose opinion, I don't know much on this subject like everyone else. I love him/sometimes hate him.

After watching the Angry Joe interview I decided to write out some thoughts on the situation with Konami. It's late so I'm not sure I'm conveying my thoughts accurately but I did want to be as detailed as possible, so it's a wall of text. No tl;dr because reasons.

My thoughts and best guess at the situation with Konami and Kojima

Well, whatever was the cause of the fallout, it's going to ultimately lead to the downfall of Konami as we know it. Kojima was nodoubt 'high on the horse' so to say, but I wouldn't say he was too big for his own boots. He's carried Konami far enough on his own to make up for any foundational opportunities they provided.

Everyone has their own theories and I'm sure the truth is more complex than my intuition, but I really do think it is as simple as Kojima wanting to finish the Metal Gear franchise with TPP and Konami flatout rejecting an end to their cash machine, in more ways than one. Seriously though, this didn't blow up until just after Kojima publicly stated in an interview that TPP would be the final chapter of Metal Gear. I think they were in talks at the time and his position was that Konami could continue with off beat titles such as Rizing, but the main series was over. I truly think Kojima was going to go 'all in' on the Silent Hill franchise and Konami simply didn't have the confidence or patience to fully invest in that all while in theory loosing Metal Gear and shifting a majority of their focus to mobile.

Again, I don't think it really matters now. I think Metal Gear is creatively and respectively done for good, thankfully. Silent Hills will go down with Star Wars 1313 as the collective video game versions of Alejandro Jodorowsky's 'Dune' and the greatest cancellations of all time. We're literally watching Konami commit corporate suicide, they'll be merged, bought and absorbed by the end of the decade.

after a certain amount of time all will be revealed on what happened between Kojima and Konami.

I got a feeling it's gonna be bad for Konami when that book opens.
and also we as fans are gonna apreciate Kojima more

I feel the biggest reason for Kojima leaving Konami is partly because of them trying to milk the money out of his game.

He had wanted Ground Zeroes to be along with TPP, but I don't think it's all up to him when it comes to publishing the games. GZ was simply a quick cash grab by Konami. When they told him that they'd be adding microtransactions, that's what finally did it for him. Kojima would never let something like that in the masterpiece that he's spent 25 years perfecting.

Honestly, he never said that. The day TPP was revealed he said GZ would come first and TPP after. Let's not make him out to be a blameless victim. They may be responsible for the price, but he knew what he was doing. And also another reason was technological.

If the rumours are true, it's because the CEO just doesn't like him or just doesn't care about gaming in general. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Kojima saw it coming and used GZ to give himself more time.

Thanks for the reference Falco :)

If you want to look at this current situation through a buzz marketing POV... it would fall under the 6th maxim/button (Secrets).

In the hypothetical model, Konami/possibly Kojima is intentionally keeping everyone in the dark. This in itself creates conversation and buzz surrounding Kojima, Konami, and Metal Gear Solid as a franchise/series.

It can also be said that this latest incident can tie back into the THEME of my hypothesis, which has found a pattern in LOSS/REMOVAL elements/themes.
