So it's Mongolia? @ angryification if the game ends with "Commencing Operation Intrude N313" I would be completly satisfied. Edited by gpack418, Jul 10 2015, 09:57:28 PM.

When I searched up Central Asia, this is what I got: It does fit between Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China. Aldrius: Wasn't Tselinoyarsk supposed to be South Russia? If so I'm assuming Zanzibar Land is around the Kazakhstan area. Edited by Infiltrator, Jul 11 2015, 12:29:44 AM.

seeing as how wars last a very long time, it wouldn't shock me if by the end we end up in 95' creating outer heaven. yet on the other hand, kojima did say there were going to be a lot of 80s references in the game and it wouldn't make sense if it goes into the 90s so... i'm thinking the furthest it would go is 89'. |

Zanzibarland, an inland nation surrounded by Pakistan, USSR, China and Afghanistan. There is only one actual country that fits the bill, Tajikistan. |

It's supposed to be in the southern Soviet Union. It's a fictional place as far as I know, so it's kind of hard to pin down exactly where it's supposed to be. Wiki says MGS3 implies it's in Tajikistan. I'm not sure if Tajikistan was a part of the Soviet Union, my research isn't really turning up anything. There's also jungles in Tajikistan, like Tselinoyarsk. It sounds like Tselinoyarsk became Zanzibar Land (why is it named after an east African peninsula anyway) and it's located approximately where Tajikistan is. Tajikistan shares a border with Afghanistan, so it's probable that we may go there during MGS5. Either as part of a smaller, separate location map (for a series of missions) or as part of the Afghanistan map. Given the fact that it's a totally different kind of terrain (a jungle) and that it's an iconic location from MGS3, I imagine it'll be separate if they include it. Yes it was part of the USSR. In MGS3 they are flying over Pakistan towards Soviet territory. |

Yes I looked into it as well, Tajikistan was a part of the Soviet Union. Since they were in in the south it's a strong possibility they were in Tajikistan (funny, I always assumed they were actually in Russia). Zanzibar Land's location also pinpoints it around Tajikistan. So maybe they are actually the same place? I also found this posted on another forum from a user: -The cliff before Rassvet would be where Snake climbed into ZL. -Rassvet would be roughly where the Zanzibar building was, probablys somewhere between the cliff and Rassvet itself. -where Sokolov was held in Rassvet is a fair match for where Madnar was held in ZL. -The swamp past Rassvet would be part of the swamp that had that annoying maze. -The minefield past the swamp before the Bolshaya Past Base would be the minefield before the squeaking sand. -Bashaya Past Base with the Hind would then be the Hind boss battle and Tower building in ZL. -The crevice where Big Boss fought Ocelot would be the area you had to glide over to reach the prison camp. This is the shakiest comparison I've found, as in MG2 it was a cliff rather than a crevice. The cliff before Rassvet, where it seems the Zanzibar building should be, is actually also a fair match for this one, since it also includes a bridge as well. |

I always loved that Tselinoyarsk = Zanzibar theory, I personally believe in it. I almost forgot, that Project Ito's novelization of MGS4 even confirmed that they were the same location.

Also kind of symbolic that the place where big boss had to kill his mentor is the place where he meets his downfall (until mgs4 chnages that) at the hands of solid snake, who was forced to kill his mentor and father. |

The past two posts...I like it! A fitting location - I haven't played MG2 yet, but it seems appropriate! |
