So, I've noticed some changes in his appearance. It was explained in a cassette tape but I forgot which one.
In the episode Voices

And in the Sahalantropus mission
Spoiler: click to toggle

Can somebody explain his revenge/hate powers or just point out the cassette tape, if you remember it.
I thought he was kidding, but I
soon realized that Mr. Kojima was serious.

What about Shabani. How does he fit in. Revenge against who?
And something weird happened in the prologue, where you get out of the van, a whale(?) eats the chopper. Apparently he had the shrapnel (horn) there.

Dirty Duck got it covered pretty well, but for me a lot of things were confusing about his role until I realized that

A final little hint of revenge when he realizes how unfair his situation is probably. That or against Skullface, but Volgin doesn't act on his will for revenge, because Shabani dies moments later.

Any "floating boy" tape (IIRC) will explain it in detail.

Here are the pictures in case you haven't seen it, it's only missing the Shabani one, where Mantis wears the lion necklace around his neck:

I feel like he was a plot device.

A plot device I wanted to shoot in the face more often.

And take his gas mask.

And lock him down in some room he can't escape from. But has a small viewing window.

So he can view me wearing his mask while singing a rendition of Fat Guy In a Little Coat but instead of coat I sing mask.

Basically, without giving away spoilers, I think he was cool. But the lack of a prolonged and explicit, not in violence but in "Yes. This little douche has been fucking your day up since the beginning of the game and now you can shoot him in the face after learning his tactics." sort of way.

The lack of that is sort of meh.
I have clever things to put here but they all involve profanity. Will update when I think of words that aren't profane.

Yeah he really is a massive plot device. Not a Deus Ex Machina per se since he's not contrived, but a plot device all the same.

I wish we got to control him more often. /:

He was a deus ex machina, according to mission 51.

So his powers are based on revenge/thirst for revenge. But out of all, I think Kaz lost the most. So he should have the biggest thirst for revenge against Skullface. Is it that they never got close to one another, or Eli's hate towards Venom is greater (that scene in the chopper).

If MGS1 is any indication, Eli's hate is MASSIVE and he's a kid in this one, meaning his brain emits much more powerful emotions and what not.

Tbh how awesome would it be if the demon system impacted how Mantis reacts to you?

They were close together in the very chopper you mentioned. I guess Eli's hate was the greatest.

Would've been brilliant in my opinion. Almost as creative as Mantis' MGS1 fourth wall fuckery.

I felt like he was way too OP and convenient. He's nowhere near this powerful in Mgs1 as a full grown man. Snake basically shoots him to death in a tiny office.

But I'll be honest and say I did find him really intriguing and creepy.

You stop right fucking there and apologies Infiltrator . CIA is many things; a has been meme master, a baneposter who ran it to the ground so bad to where it stopped being funny, a complete and utter podcast tsundere but I will NOT allow you to call him a shitty Gary Stu who killed a 7 part book series. That's just mean and unfair.

Sorry if I sound angry but this was too much, even with the strike in mind.

Honestly, I was under the impression that the Floating boy is not Psycho Mantis, but a different character entirely. Mind control is one thing, but the ability to firebend a giant whale is a whole other beast in itself. I wont believe its Psycho mantis until I get real confirmation. Like how we found that its Volgin the entire time.

That's a possibility. I think most people (myself included) assume he's Psycho Mantis since they look the same and "float" in the same position.

There's also his connection to Eli (Liquid).

Watch your spoilers Slevi. Tag that please.

Yeah good point, the whole pyrokinesis thing. We didn't see any of that with Mantis in MGS1. Was purely telepathy/telekinesis. Plus didn't Mantis say he ended up killing his dad and burning his village down? And he must have done it before he was taken to the research hospital place, making him very young at the time, would he have understood all those emotions then?

Lol oh my god if this is not Mantis its beyond shitty.
So apparently Big Boss met two floating boys with mind control powers lmao.
The game explains that kids have much stronger emotions/emit stronger brain waves/science brain stuff that has to do with being a kid to explain him being OP in this one.
