it's a novel idea, in theory at least, but the way it was incorporated--forcing people to take part in it, all or nothing--is pretty obnoxious... hell, even the "rewards" aren't worth the headache. i don't need a tamogotchi konami! and certainly not one that other people can fuck with! moving on... it got me thinking about the spiel of FOB's being completely separate from the base game. i'm basically in the upper 60's/lower 70's in all my staff dept's., but that's with nearly a 200 person roster for each dept. Question: mathematically, is it even possible to play the base game, sans FOB, and reach S ranks for each staff dept? i apologize for the aimlessness of this topic. i just have so many issues with FOB's i don't even know where to start. The ONLY reason to play FOB's is for S+ and S++ recruits. Everything else is meh and or just for fun. One of the biggest issues plaguing FOB's is how OP the Player Defending it's BS. |

well all they have to do is help "agitate" the ai, and you're pretty much hosed as an invader. regardless, my point wasn't to critique the gameplay but rather address the larger issue that the FOB creates a pipeline directly into your game, allowing players to swipe your staff and diminish your progress, especially when you're not looking. despite what was said, FOB's are not separate at all. i spent hours recruiting/micromanaging staff, progressing them to an "A" level. and now, i return after about a week off to discover that much of my later progress has essentially been wiped away due to invasions. i'm not blaming the other players mind you, it's the oversight and ridiculously bad design. again, whoever thought this was a good idea should be flogged repeatedly... then flogged again. i would never have bought a game if i knew my time and progress would essentially be undermined by an online component beyond my control. it's maddening. don't get me wrong, i love the game, but fuck... Mathematically, yes. I have have maxed out my staff full of S ranks at about 2100 strong. Only problem is that I am always losing soldiers to Combat deployments. Most players only bully the weak FOB players. Attacking 1/4 strut levels, but never maxed out FOBs. Only if you have a nuke do you become prime target. However, currently it is taking an extremely long time if someone wants max out with S+ and S++ ranks. As those soldiers seem to be only FOB exclusive. |

Honestly no. Its not dynamic enough for it to be a fun gamemode. The idea seemed great though. We all wanted an Outerheaven base of sorts to invade as that is the fashion with past MGS games. Currently pacifists dont want to invade players because they have no reason too. They just want to play the main campaign and not bother with online except for the extra resources. Invaders usually just invade to cause havoc and be trolls since majority are the lethal types. Messed up waking up one day and see all your stuff jacked and a good percentage of your staff killed. FOB's are 1 vs 1, but no one likes such a gamemode. 1 vs 1 is lame. We want to play with friends and among teams. It makes the sense of winning more satisfying. |

I meant would it be possible to achieve an "S" rank in each department without the use of an FOB. With a fully upgraded MB you only have a 100 max roster, which is why I asked. Also, I don't mind the combat deployments, even when losing soldiers. You have control over that, and even then the losses are minimal. However, the real dilemma occurred when I returned from a week long break to a nice hit in my single player progress. Not only did my security team take a hit of roughly 1/4 of its staff (150/200), but the invasions also reduced progress/rank in my combat, base development and intel. This was particularly annoying since I had just hit those milestones. Maybe it sounds like I'm whining, but I'm actually trying to raise those stats, so yeah, it's a problem when my progress can be so easily diminished without any real justifiable cause. Again, someone thought this was a good idea? And mind you, it's not a matter of degree, but that it can happen at all. The FOB stuff is fine, I just don't want my personal progress/staff involved, thank you very much. fix. it. please. Edited by ColonelPutty, Sep 30 2015, 06:12:21 AM.

Players have a habit of hitting low level FOBs. 1/4 are usually prime targets because they are good for practice for the most part. Building up FOBs to 4/4 keeps most players at bay. As for S ranking departments, having atleast 1 FOB is enough to reach the S rank. I assume you are starting out. Once your FOB has nothing by A++ soldiers, most invaders will stay away. I suggest randomly supporting a ton of players in the hopes that they will return the favor. The more supporters you have, the less you have to worry. At the end of the day, dont gives players a reason to invade your FOBs. Scare them away with high ranking FOBs and possibly a scary artistic emblem. Anyone with your default DD emblem is usually a noob and players take advantage of that. |
