I'm the type of person that goes cold turkey on any bad habit, because I believe that's the only way it ever really works. But if you want to replace sodas with a liquid that has a bit of taste to it, I suggest tea. As for snacks: try replacing those with granola bars or something. I rarely eat fruit myself, but that's because I don't like the taste of sweet. And vegetables, I must admit, is a bit of an acquired taste. But tastebuds are very programmable, so at first you won't really like it, but if you cook vegetables properly they can be very delicious. |

Don't know what kind of tea you've been drinking. You don't have to eliminate everything, just reduce it. Also, I love fruit. |

Anyone have experience with intermittent fasting? How much of a calorie deficit is fine? |

I see intermittent fasting as an easy way to still meet your required calorie intake after a cheat day. I do it once in a while, but generally I just eyeball my macros, I can't be arsed with calculating and measuring everything. And in my opinion, a calorie deficit of around 20% of the amount of calories you need to maintain body fat should be alright. So, for example, if you need 1200 calories to sustain the status quo, a deficit of around 240-ish calories should help with both bulking and cutting. Ofcourse, people with higher calorie intakes need bigger deficits in terms of hard numbers to see any results, but the percentage remains about the same. Don't go overboard with the deficits though, because too big of a cut will inevitably result in loss of muscle mass, and too big of a bulk will just make you fat. |

I recommend a 500 calorie deficit maximum. Not too little, not too much. Anything more than that is unsustainable and will cause you to lose gains. I do calorie deficit as I've been cutting and I hate doing cardio. I cut way too much about 600-1000 cals I lost some gains too as I haven't been able to hit the gym lately. Intermittent fasting + Calorie deficit + Stress + Skipping gym = good way to lose some muscle. If you wanna retain your muscle mass on a calorie deficit, you gotta lift heavy to signal your body to retain your muscle and not use it up as a source to burn energy, so instead your body would prioritize fat which will cause you to lose more percentage of fat in the long run. |

Current macro is 1606 calories, 130g fat, 89g protein, <20g carb. Might up the protein a bit now that I'm doing a bit of hiit everyday.

Do you drink protein shakes? I think your protein is on the low side especially at around 235 lbs. You can definitely do with more. |

When I put stuff in the calculator I said I sit around all day so it doesn't count exercise into weight loss, just the food. I always end up going over my protein macro everyday anyways. Meat everywhere. |

It's good to have fat as a source of energy when you're pretty low on carbs, and more fat in diet just means more fat storage burned. |

Your body stores fat if you don't eat fat. He said he's on a cut.. On a cut you don't build muscle, you maintain muscle. |

Yup, and only brotein do that. Tbf, fat intake should be taken in at the bare minimum when on a cut because the body digests and processes nutrients in the following manner: - carbs get processed and converted into energy to maintain homeostasis - excess carbs get converted and stored as fat - protein gets absorbed directly and transported to where it is needed - excess protein get secreted via the urinary tract - and in conclusion, fat gets stored without any conversion as fat So basically on a cut you create a calorie deficit by cutting your carbohydrates and fats below homeostasis maintenance so your body is triggered into using the stored fat as energy. The only constant is protein, it's like the c in E=mc˛. I've also looked up how many calories 130 grams of fat is, and it's a whopping 1200, which is already the full daily calorie intake of the average person. It's like eating a chicken breast per day that consists only of fat. Attemtping to cut with that fat intake is a pipedream, unless you're a pro bodybuilder who consumes around 8000 calories per day. |

I've had 20g or less carbs per day for almost half a year and haven't lost any every, muscle mass, or strength. That I know of. I dunno, I have a bread processing issue and I don't think cavemen needed bread to get by. First thing I remember about any mentions of bread is in the bible and bad stuff was always happening. |

Fat is great! So is intermittent fasting. Right now I just eat coconut oil and coffee for the half of the time I am up.![]() Primal Endurance: Escape chronic cardio and carbohydrate dependency and become a fat burning beast! - Mark Sisson (a popular paleo guy) who also wrote The Primal Bluebrint books. Has anyone read this? I just got it but haven't started yet. I got interested in this because it's hell trying to do anything when you have your carbs all burned to energy already. Fat seems like a better energy source than carbs after the body is adapted. |
