So...I don't know how I feel about this. Sounds like its Kojima trying to pull a Dark Souls, actually. Journey and a few other games beat him to the punch on the whole ''battling'' thing so he's not exactly breaking new grounds here, but i'm interested in the mechanic very much nonetheless.

Ludens remember how you said they were making fast progress back when the trailer was announced? well this says they had just recently picked an engine and that its just now entering proper production so I was right about the progress of the game.
just saying

We have arrived.
I THINK THE ENGINE THING WAS WIDELY KNOWN. HOWEVER I IMAGINE THIS IS THE REGULAR KOJIMA TRITE WHERE HE TELLS US HIS ENORMOUS IDEAS THAT INEVITABLY NEVER COME TO FRUITION.
Watch this space.

Looks like you will beat the enemies like at any other action game, but everybody will be connected by strands. It means, somehow, the new gameplay that Kojima sais is the future of gaming is related to this. So maybe in DS we will not only beat the enemy with sticks, we will have to use strands in a unique way, in a way it has never been done before.

And I like the Open World news. But dont have too much details yet.
Sorry about my English!! I'm from Brazil :)

He's making an open world game after butchering the previous one? I hope Sony gives him time to make it, but he should be careful.

Show us some gameplay!

I have no idea what could this mean, but I'm really hungry for more info. and regarding the open world, it's the first time he's confirming it'll be an open world game. I remember him saying it wouldn't be an open world game before, but now the plans have been changed apparently. with all this new info, there's no way for it to be a small scale game. exciting news nonetheless :)

And Max, that's not new info. we knew they were choosing an engine when the trailer was announced, and Kojima himself confirmed that back then. revealing a brand new trailer (which had them scan real fish and crabs) a month after quitting Konami shows that they're working faster than before, that's what I was talking about. that said, it's not coming anytime soon as Kojima said himself.

He's using the engine from the Sucker Punch studio for those interested. Interested in seeing what he can do with time and something new.
My favorite MGSV Interpretation.

I just hope it'not an "always online" game (or like mgs V, which forced you to create an online base and share your online resources). If it is, I'm out of it, not my kind of people... ehm, game at all
I'm a Moderate Fan

Moderate fans have strong opinions on some subjects concerning the Metal Gear series, but generally just want to have fun sneaking around and destroying Metal Gears while experiencing a storyline that is at least as comparable as the average B-flick. They do tend to be the least dedicated of all fans and are unlikely to be knowledgeable about the series' fictional universe and even developmental history.

You stop right fucking there and apologies Infiltrator . CIA is many things; a has been meme master, a baneposter who ran it to the ground so bad to where it stopped being funny, a complete and utter podcast tsundere but I will NOT allow you to call him a shitty Gary Stu who killed a 7 part book series. That's just mean and unfair.

Sorry if I sound angry but this was too much, even with the strike in mind.

I liked the open-world concept of The Phantom Pain I just didn't like that it was so damn barren. With this second open-world structured title I hope their is more life (pardon the pun) put into the level design. GTA , Deus EX HR/Deus EX MD, AC, and Witcher III are examples of how to do open-world proper

I don't like open world games and i hope DS is more linear in terms of story and gameplay.

chances are, it won't be open world a la rpg with side quests and shit, but rather, playing with other people, like fighting enemy monsters or what have you, more like dark souls and journey.

I still don't know what genre this game belongs to. A shooter? A brawler? A platformer? Horror? MMO? And if you tell me it's action-adventure I'm punch you in the throat?
I thought he was kidding, but I
soon realized that Mr. Kojima was serious.

The open world will probably be much more populated than that of TPP, as they were (or are still?) hiring for crowd AI programmers for the game and since Kojima said there will be RPG elements in the game, the world will probably be more interactive. and the technical limitations that plagued TPP aren't a thing this time, that's kind of a relief too.

Regarding the genre, we really don't know what it is. but Kojima said those who like action games, horror and RPGs will like it, so it'll be a mixture of those elements but it'll be classified as an action game.

Yeah he said that too, but what I quoted is from a newer interview, the one with Geoff Keighley to be precise.

He was never trying to create a true open world in the same vein as GTA or Witcher 3 though, the open world was only really there to create more freedom in the stealth gameplay - he called it an infiltration simulator. The only purpose of the open world was to provide more infiltration options and give us a large map containing multiple facilities to sneak into. It was never supposed to be a living breathing world, at its core it's still MGS meaning it's just you and a multitude of enemy guards to sneak past
