Tried watching the trailer again and YouTube stuck an xbox ad in front of the video. Get out of here xbox, you lost.

Somewhere on the internet someone said the game will be on the Decima engine which is some modified sucker punch engine.

A neat trailer, I really liked the music. But I don't know if its just me but modelling characters after their voice actors always just feels a bit weird to me, and like a waste of character design. It makes me link the character to the actor too much.

OT The trailer is simply marvellous. Rough gameplay aspects can be pulled out with some imagination from this.

Team based and kind of hunter and hunted type of gameplay is what i see.

Agreed. Not a big fan of using actual actors' faces in the game.

Just some quick observations:

Okay, so we've got a war torn Europe as a setting here, occupied by the the skeletal corpses of US paratroopers from the second world war. it's actually set in the real world, a fucked up version of it to be precise. you can see the "US" markings on the backpacks of those skeletal soldiers, besides, their uniforms and the weapons they're carrying (hybrid of the Garand and M1 Carbine) give it away. the patches on their shoulders are probably fictional as I haven't seen them before. everything from soldiers, tanks and planes have those "strands" attached to them, must have something to do with the rope concept Kojima talked about. the tank also had those tentacle like things coming from its engine, like it was being operated by them, pretty strange and interesting at the same time.

Mads Mikkelsen is wearing US army's three-color desert uniform from 2003-2005's operation in Iraq. his assault rifle is also resembles a variation of the AR15 family rifles. his presence does suggest time travel, as he's equipped with modern equipment as opposed to the soldiers who are all from decades ago. Mads is obviously controlling those skeletal soldiers via those "strands" like he's commanding a pack of dogs to hunt something. Del Toro's character is also coming from a modern era judging by his appearance, the handcuffs (that look like the one used to tie Norman's hands) and the technologically advanced device he's carrying. there's a writing on the pin badge on his chest, reading "bridges" if I'm not mistaken. there also looks to be a map of the southern part of the US on the badge, if I'm not seeing things.

And finally two Pythonselkanish things, at 1:23 you can hear the loudspeaker saying "umbilical cord" just like how the radio mentioned it in PT. the connection between these two games is real, this game will be featuring occult as Kojima said, and it'll certainly have horror themes as well. that said, there's no ruse or anything like that. and at 2:19, you can hear a woman saying "my baby..." coupled with a man's voice saying the same thing (Norman?). this looks pretty damn interesting and I'm probably gonna watch it non-stop, and I'll share anything else I could find in it.

Who's that dude behind him? looks like that blue skinned character from Hellboy (can't remember the name) but I guess it's another character from DS. in another tweet, he confirmed that demo is running on PS4 pro in real time, showcasing the engine's capabilities.

yeah, normally, that's distracting for me too, since it's clearly a gimmick to ensure these high profile actors are immediately recognizable to fans.

that said, to me, it works with hannibal, at least, because he's one of the naturally sexiest creepiest looking motherfuckers i've ever seen on tv after joe turkyl:

I'm with Duck. Also Reedus is a really odd choice anyway. Past certain seasons in TWD he kind of just phones it in. I have no idea whether he's an excellent actor or not.

Norman is always that "fooken rope" guy from boondock saints to me. I don't classify him as actor. Just Norman. And I'm okay with that.

speaking on a casting perspective, it depends on what the role is. if we're looking for a survivalist kind of character or some gruff badass or whatever, then reedus is a solid casting choice, if a bit on the nose. he'd certainly be playing into his type, but that's kind of asking for a phoned in performance.

to me though, this is definitely more fame based than anything else, because reedus is in right now, and having a name with as much pull as his will help ensure this draws an additional crowd; something kojipro 2.0 will need to get off the ground. that and kojima really wants to work with hollywood actors, it seems. \_(:/)_/

I think he's lucky to become iconic off the back of TWD, a show that I think is already quite overrated anyway. But that's another debate for another time.

Eh, I just can't help but be absurdly skeptical of anything Kojima releases these days. I know it will do well with critics and tick a ton of boxes for a lot of people but for me, MGS4 and MGSV just left me..wanting. Not even as a big fan of the franchise either. Just as a general gamer.

tbh, most mgs games leave me wanting. as a gamer though, i'm at least slightly optimistic precisely because of mgsv, since it's been over a year, and i'm still playing it and having fun. and since i don't expect anything from kojima's stories beyond them being weird, all i hope or care for is that the gameplay is excellent.

if it is, and it proves as replayable as teepeepee, i'm set. i say that because he kept comparing it to the division and uncharted, noting it had co-op and rpg elements. and i don't really expect this will be a full fledged narrative driven game like most mgs games, if that's the case. could be wrong, but given that we now know guns are involved, i wouldn't rule it out.

I think we have different ideas of games we like though, because I could never still play MGSV a year later. I could barely even complete the game once I basically realised it was not much more than an exceptionally refined game play experience put in slightly different coloured "sandboxes" with marginal narrative strings to pull it along.
