At Tokyo Game Show, Kojima Productions confirmed that there is a set release date and that we would see it released "Before the Tokyo Olympic games", which are slated to begin in the summer of 2020. To go a little further, there is a movie called Akira, and it will be out before the year in which Akira is set. The anime movie Akira was set in 2019

So before Akira would peg Death Stranding release date at sometime during 2018.

Kojima noted that most of his games are released on schedule, as he is not only the director of the game but also the producer.
:roy:
Well to be fair, kojima never mentioned a exact release date on previous games and from what i saw there was never a delay of his games or? I'm not sure but he could be right about what he said.

Anyway DS has been featured in germany as a top story and they have mentioned 2018 for DS. But it's only speculation i guess

Kojima again about release dates:

Quote:

“So I have the idea in my head, like I just said, and I have the date in my head alongside with it. And then when I first tell someone about it, when I tell the team about it, that’s when we decide basically the development schedule, the development process. That is actually the time we decide the release date, right away.”

As an example Kojima compared this process to the movie industry: “When production of a movie starts out they plan the shooting and everything to tie in with the release date. They know when the release date is so then they secure the movie theaters for that time, they can secure the numbers of seats that they need to fill. The schedule and the promotion, all the planning revolves around meeting that same date, like everything running up to that point. I feel that I myself am actually very good at this process.”

I think 2018 is the goal but probably pushed to early 2019.

I stated this before ages ago. Death Stranding will be the testimony for Koji being a brilliant game developer or just another game developer. One thing for sure: the guy lies...a lot.

I wouldn't say Kojima lies so much as he's...well, in his own world.

For example, I genuinely believe Kojima genuinely believed we'd be ashamed of our words and deeds when we found out Quite being part plant justified the outfit. He talks a lot bigger and grander, but the reality is, being in your own world means you won't talk straight. I've yet to see a single interview where Kojima talks like a normal person, just straight forward.

He's artsy in that way, and I've known plenty of directors like that, but it does cause this level of frustration when simplicity is just, legit, impossible to get out of someone.

With the release date, I'd rather just hear him state, "We're nowhere near close to settled with gameplay, and the release date could be a while. I want it to be by 2018, but there's no sure fire guarantee that it won't be released until 2019." Just something like that without getting into the more indulgent side of explanation and understanding, and honestly, I think most people would appreciate that, right?

Yeah, maybe "lies" isn't the right word for it. "Exaggerates" or "misleads" is more accurate.

Several people misunderstood this information, they thought he was referring to the live action Akira release (warner bros)

Yeah, late 2018 early 2019 is where its at.
Maybe also 2020..

“The one major misguided judgment about myself is that I don’t stick to due dates, I don’t keep to my timetable. Like I’ve said some time recently, on the off chance that you can’t do that, you can’t be a maker. This is something that I’m intense about doing, this is a major misguided judgment about myself” (RTX Sydney Interview)

Ok 2020 is too late but, speaking of Decima engine, Horizon was announced at E3 2015 (with gameplay) and in less than two years is now ready. So DS was announced at E3 2016 (it took three months for the trailer) and we haven't seen a single aspect of the gameplay. Knowing Kojima Sony will give him the entire 2018, but he's going to launch a "new genre", it's a game with Hollywood Actors and an open world has been suggested.. maybe DS will be one of those titles that close PS4 (Pro) lineup when the next Sony system has already been revealed

Now in 2017 they're ready to start properly "the ship" and maybe reveal the actress before December, in 2018 they show a "story trailer" with a gameplay reveal, in 2019 the game will be postponed to the end of the year so that more people have migrated to PS4 Pro..

I think another trailer on this E3 is a given. Gameplay is usually reserved for tgs when comes to kojima. If we get to see one this year, then 2018 is possible. If not, 2019 is the safest bet.

Yeah i think so too Q4 2018 is probably the goal but could be pushed to early 2019. Most of the gaming sites covering DS mentioned 2018 aswell. I'm staying optimistic and believe that kojima learned from the past and adapted the new developement process. The time is over where developers had 5 years and high budget eating resources, this business changed imo.

Question is, do we think this is still too early for announcements?

Part of Hype Culture that I think does more harm for a game than good is expectations. If Kojima spends a good few years talking a game up without showing enough during that time, I get the sense that people can basically work themselves up, as can journalists.

Because people love overthinking Kojima's work, right? So, the longer people go without anything tangible, the more theories and over-analyzations we get, but then, people forget that Kojima's writing is seldom even half as thought out.

Basically, what I'm getting at is, suppose Dead Steaks gets pushed back to 2019, if that does happen, then there needs to be something tangible to hold people off, so they can maintain perspective and be realistic if they have a better idea of what they're getting into, and what to expect / not expect.

Like, the mere fact that we gotta speculate when this game comes out kinda already has me suspicious if Kojima's learned anything from the past. Death Stranding is in articles on a weekly basis, yet none of it is ever new information, just more info about Kojima or his studio, y'know?

Side note, R.I.P. to whoever in Kojima's family has passed away, because KojiPro's twitter page made a tweet about that and why he won't be attending an upcoming convention or something.

After the fiasco with mgs v's release date speculation i really dont care much. Im ok now with knowing that Kojima will probably give us 50 trailers before it gets released. If that doesnt happen, hey good looking out.

And yeah, condolences for his family loss.

Anyone expecting a release this year? I think this game will come out early 2019 with a ps4 pro bundle. Anytime between feb. and june 2019.
According to sony developement runs at fast paced but i don't think it will come out this year. Well i really hope E3 18 shed some light on the release of this game.

I think late 2019 or even 2020 is a fair guess. They're still shooting a lot of cutscenes at this moment, commented by Jordan-Vogt Roberts, claiming that, "Death Stranding's cutscenes will melt your eyes!" in a recent tweet. So if they're still actively shooting cutscenes and working on the game, then any ideas of the game releasing within the next 8 to 12 months seems next to impossible. It's now been almost two years since Death Stranding's initial reveal, and thus far, we've yet to see an ounce of actual gameplay. So that also has me skeptical of the idea that Death Stranding is anywhere near our grasp.

A nutjob without borders

It's frustrating for gamers when devs tease games long before release but it WORKS. It creates hype and anticipation. It makes folk build ideas in their heads to the point where it becomes myth and theorized.
Then sells like hotcakes.

I say late 2019 or 2020
