Kojima-Konami relationship intensifies

A new chapter in the Konami – Kojima drama presents itself. According to Japanese news outlet Nikkei, translated by website Kotaku, Konami wasn’t too happy about Kojima’s comments on Metal Gear Survive when asked about the game last TGS. Speaking at the event, Kojima said something along the lines of: “I’m not involved at all, and I don’t know anything about it. Personally speaking, Metal Gear Solid is espionage to me, political fiction. I don’t think zombies would appear in such a world.” This comment seems to have had consequences as Kojima supposedly received a letter from Konami last fall, saying: “You are unfairly sullying the reputation of our company.” According to Nikkei, Konami probably wasn’t too pleased about the crowd’s laughter following Kojima’s comments.

There are also some reports that state Konami is refusing to pay part of Kojima’s departure fee, though Konami has refuted this. And as if that’s not enough, another report states that Kojima Productions is having trouble getting health insurance for their employees through the Kanto IT Software Health Insurance Association, where apparently Konami is a big player.

Lastly, it is said former Konami employees are not supposed to say they previously worked at the company when applying for a new job, and Konami is telling large game companies to be careful about hiring them, as well as telling Japanese tv stations to disregard them.

Most of you who frequent this and the MGSV section know that I can't stand the hippy FucKonami hastags and the Cult of Kojima worshiping that happened over MGSV.
I hold Kojima at least partly responsible for how MGSV turned out. I understand a company's need to cut loose someone who's bleeding them dry with nothing to show for it. I understand the need to cut a long overdue project short to recover some of the resorces you put into it.

But this is getting ridiculous. So much so, that I'm not really interested in supporting them anymore. Firing an employee for being too liberal with your cash is one thing but harassing your FORMER employees is another.

I understand their letter about MG S, especially since Kojima's comment is hypocritical. But sullying your former employees' reputation, denying them compensation or even pulling strings to stop them from getting jobs or even HEALTH INSURANCE is too much.

I have no idea how some higher upps can put up with people damaging their reputation like this, unless they're ALL in it. Hell, this is even against the law.

They're asking Kojima to stop sullying their reputation, while doing the same to their former employees. It's a shame Konami's off the stock market. The idiots in charge would've been strung by the balls by their shareholders, even though gaming isn't their biggest division.

This is getting into some shady teritory. I though denying Kojima his award was bad but this is disgusting. I don't blame the entirety of Konami, as they still have decent people working there but their management is shit. Disgusting, idiotic group of people who need a swift kick in the balls and a boot up their ass kicking them out the door.

The part about the higher ups at Konami sending letters off to Kojima isn't surprising in the least. A bit thin skinned, but hardly surprising. The rest, however, is just "reports and rumors." And sufficed to say, there's probably a reason that only 'Metalgearinformer' is the only sight reporting on anything beyond an unhappy letter.

Yeah. I've heard that for western standards, Japanese corporate culture is quite vicious.
