It seems we'll be getting a little bit more news on this mysterious passion project from KojiPro 2.0 next month!

With any luck, we'll FINALLY get some gameplay showcased and not yet another acid trip music video in the guise of a cinematic trailer. :P

I didn't care much for MGSV at all, so i don't have high hopes for this one either. Also the gameplay doesn't have to be different from other games just for the sake of being different imo. It just needs tight gameplay and be immersive for me to like it. MGSV had perfect gameplay but it wasn't immersive at all. The world was flat and soulless and i just didn't feel it.

True true.
The map felt soo empty which made the whole story empty.
It felt like we were just testing out a character for a game that hasn't yet been developed.

But I think it may build for a better platform for the future open world game for Kojima.
It may have been his first open world game so I think he may now have the knowledge to develop upon his earlier concepts. It will surely be better this time around in Death Stranding.

But how can he learn from his mistakes when everyone overpraises PP as one of the best open world games?(Which got a pretty high MC score)

pretty sure with the praise that PP got, he considers that game as a "Perfect open world game".

Well, Mads Mikkleson has told many reporters about how Kojima isn't easily satisfied with the game development and is always looking for improvement.

There wasn't freedom under Konami.

It's just the overall expectation of the game right from the start. Will it be as good as it's trailers?

I just got that MGS 2 spooky suspense vibe from the trailers soo far which is why I am looking forward to this game.

I didn't care much for MGSV at all, so i don't have high hopes for this one either. Also the gameplay doesn't have to be different from other games just for the sake of being different imo. Ultimately, Brera - I think we all go into games with our own expectations and desires, so what may or may not click for one person will be completely different for someone else. I understand the immersion element, because the world had a lot of great ideas but was never fully realized, hence its' soulless nature. However, that actually never bothered me, if I'm honest. Again, it's all completely subjective, but for me, if I'm having just utter fun playing a video game, I'm immersed. What MGSV lacked in its' utterly lifeless open world and lacked in its' often context-less story, for me, it made up in spades by having the single best stealth action missions I've ever played in any video game to date.

This is all just my own personal view, but I've grown completely bored of Open World video games. The only video game I've ever played where I was genuinely invested in the world itself was Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. But for all the stuff to do in most Open World games, very little of it is stuff I'm ever in any HURRY to sink my teeth into. Witcher 3 had a VERY lively open world with great writing and well written characters, but so little of what the open world had to offer was ever FUN for me. It almost seemed like Witcher 3 was more about its' cutscenes than gameplay, and the truth is, story and cutscenes will always come second to gameplay for me. And that's why I've always kind of gravitated towards MGSV because with the exception of the Hospital mission or that pointless Training 'mission,' there wasn't a single mission where I wasn't having fun, even in some of the more phoned in missions like "Aim True; Ye Vengeful," or "Root Cause."

What I ultimately mean by distinct gameplay is playing in a way where I don't immediately feel a sense of familiarity which brings about a sense of fatigue. Part of why I'm still playing MGSV all these years later is because to this day, no other game has felt as good to play as MGSV did, or played the way it did, despite still being a third person shooter. In contrast, I'm fifteen hours into Far Cry 5 and I liberated all of Hope Valley and defeated John Seed; the main villain of that region. And it's a complete chore for me, because all I feel is just this utter fatigue. Everything is tight and immersive enough because the world is highly well realized and has plenty of foot traffic, but the game just plays like every other first person shooter that I've ever played, terrible driving mechanics and all, and I'm just wracked with boredom as a result. Had Far Cry 5 felt distinct in its' gameplay, and had it possessed more open ended missions to encourage a bit of creativity, I wouldn't complain in the least. But as is, I'm kind of just checked out of this game.

All of that said, I don't personally think that MGSV's lifeless open world is a reflection of Kojima Productions so much as I do the Konami mandate that MGSV be a last-generation title with next-generation elements. Being stuck on PS3 and Xbox 360 essentially kneecapped just how much MGSV would ultimately be able to do, hence NPC limitations, lower poly character models, Mother Base's lifelessness and so on. And the sad thing is that this mandate actually paid off for Konami. Because MGSV was also on PS3 and Xbox 360, they sold over an additional million units on last generation consoles alone.

Death Stranding, on the other hand, is a next generation title through and through, on the Decima Engine, which has proven what it's capable of handling in-game at any given moment in a surreal open world setting. The setting is another big part of it. I think it would be almost impossible for Death Stranding to have a lifeless open world the way MGSV did because you have such a surreal element to it which already elevates it in atmosphere alone. And chances are good that with Decima, you're likely to see a higher volume of enemies in the open world, or wider scale threats, given the robot dinosaur monsters Horizon managed to have sprawling in its' open world.

Of course, we'll just have to wait and see come E3 in a few weeks. I'm personally very hopeful for this video game, and think it will be outstanding. But I'm also going in expecting to just enjoy the gameplay and HOPEFULLY enjoy an abundance of unique boss battles. I know this forum in particular is very divisive on this subject, but I also adored all of the open ended boss fights in MGSV as well, so that kind of has me hopeful that Death Stranding will continue the trend of creating intense but equally open ended bosses that can be confronted, evaded with stealth, or even taken down before the fights can even commence. The only thing I hope Death Stranding learns NOT to do from MGSV is to make some of its' bosses feel too similar, or to deprive the main villain, in this case, Mads Mikkelsen, his much needed boss fight for pointless and redundant reasons. :D
